What could happen if the Chicago Bears take Caleb Williams first overall and shop Justin Fields?

One former player has a plan for the young quarterback who never could find his way in Chicago.

Former NFL wide receiver Greg Jennings suggested that if 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy cannot get the job done, the team needs to go out and get another QB. He compared the job of Brock Purdy to what Jimmy Garoppolo did when he was in town as both quarterbacks may have won a lot, but they were not difference-makers.

He then suggested that the 49ers should go out and get Justin Fields.
‘Brock Purdy is not a difference maker.’ “No, he is not. If he does not win, you have to go and try to find a difference maker at that position. A guy maybe like Justin Fields.”

Fields is still a flawed passer, but there’s no denying his potential in the right system and the 49ers might be perfect for him.

Fields is an elite rushing threat at 6’3″, 228 pounds with 4.45 speed, and he ran for 1,143 yards in 2022. Fields threw for 2,562 yards and 16 touchdowns against nine interceptions while adding 657 rushing yards and four scores on the ground in 2023.

The Bears have the No. 1 pick in April’s NFL draft and are expected to explore drafting USC’s Caleb Williams or North Carolina’s Drake Maye. Chicago was in the same position a year ago but decided to trade back in a deal with the Carolina Panthers that ultimately gave the Bears a franchise-altering decision.

Brock Purdy has had his name in MVP discussions, but it’s hard to ignore games that he has played when he did not have Deebo Samuel or Christian McCaffrey. He will have to have a much better performance this weekend than he did last week which almost saw the team eliminated by the Packers.
