Ernest Lee Thomas, an actor since the 1970s, began his career with roles in “The Jeffersons” and “Coie High.”
He is best known for his portrayal of Roger “Raj” Thomas in “What’s Happening” and its sequel, “What’s Happening Now?” After the show’s cancellation, Thomas faced a downward spiral into depression and homelessness, which he later overcame. He also played notable roles in “Roots,” “Everybody Hates Chris,” “Martin,” and “The Steve Harvey Show.” Raised in Compton, California, Thomas pursued acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and earned degrees in sociology and psychology from Indiana State University. He learned valuable lessons working with Martin Lawrence, especially during his time on “Martin.” Lawrence, a comedy veteran born in 1965, has a storied career with major hits like “Bad Boys” and “Big Mama’s House,” and has faced personal and professional challenges, including controversial moments and health crises. Despite ups and downs, both actors have left a significant mark on Hollywood.
