However, it was a poignant moment afterwards that tugged at fans’ heartstrings.

As Chris and Dianne hugged, the show’s mics picked up him asking: “Did I do ok?”

Considering the song’s ties to Liverpool, Chris’ home city, the performance held significant meaning to the star.

One viewer wrote on social media: “You did more than ok Chris, you and Dianne created Strictly magic.”

Another remarked: “Chris doesn’t realise how amazing he is.”

A third chimed in: “Chris and Di are EVERYTHING.”

While a fourth added: “If you couldn’t love @chrismccauslandcomedy more, he then ask beautiful @diannebuswell, ‘Did I do OK?’

“Perfect reply from Dianne. From nearly everyone watching, yes Chris you did more than ok, you were amazing.”

Scouse funnyman Chris, 47, is Strictly’s first blind contestant throughout its 20-year history.

He previously told Radio Times: “I didn’t think I could do it because I literally couldn’t see what’s expected of me.

“And because I don’t watch it, I don’t have an attachment to the format.

“I’m good at making comedy out of failure, but I’m going to take this seriously.”
