Alex Scott was reportedly “deeply hurt” over the criticism of falling viewing figures of BBC’s Football Focus.
Alex Scott is reportedly considering leaving the BBC after the presenter was left “deeply hurt” by criticism of her sports programme, Football Focus.
The former England footballer, who took over hosting the show from Dan Walker in 2021, is reportedly considering a move to America amid claims she was unfairly blamed for a decline in viewing figures.
Alex, who recently turned 40, is said to be looking to focus on her charity work with UNICEF and Refuge, as well as her relationship with singer Jess Glynne.
“Last year she was hugely hurt by unfair criticism about falling viewing figures – and felt she was thrown under a bus,” the insider said.

Alex Scott could turn her back on the BBC
“The viewing figures were not as reported, and she feels no one backed her up and issued the correct viewing figures.”
With her contract up for renewal next summer, there are reportedly “no guarantees” Alex will remain with the BBC.
They remarked: “The viewing figures are actually super healthy, and Alex raised her concerns as she has been in this business long enough now to stand up for herself.”
Alex Scott has been hosting Football Focus since 2012
Taking to Twitter, she expressed gratitude and highlighted the show’s success, posting: “Thank you to everyone who tuned into Football Focus your support for such an iconic show means so much to everyone who works across it.
“Viewing figures double that of anything on TV at that time yesterday,” the 40-year-old added.
This came after former host Dan Walker voiced his worries about the programme’s future.
He moved on from presenting Football Focus to concentrate on BBC Breakfast before later joining Channel 5, and shared his sentiments online: “It’s hard to see Football Focus struggling.
“I loved it growing up and it was an honour to present it and I still miss it. We poured everything into that show each week and worked hard to keep it relevant. I hope it stays part of the TV landscape,” to which Alex Scott cryptically responded: “Interesting.”
