An NFL running back who played for the Baltimore Ravens, among multiple other teams, has announced his retirement following an eight-year stint in the league.
Kenyan Drake, a national champion with Alabama in 2012 and 2015, is walking away from football, taking to social media this weekend to disclose as much.
“It’s been an incredible ride,” he wrote in an Instagram post. “Hard to believe 8 seasons have come and gone. I’ve loved the journey — the wins, the moments big and small, the comradery, the energy, all of it […] Ready to enjoy a little retirement and see where the next chapter takes me. Thanks to everyone that was along for the ride with me — wouldn’t change a thing.”
Drake spent four years with the Crimson Tide before the Miami Dolphins drafted him in 2015. He went on to record 3,866 rushing yards and 41 total touchdowns over the next eight years.
The 30-year-old spent over three seasons with the Dolphins and scored the winning “Miami Miracle” TD against the New England Patriots in 2019. He was dealt to the Arizona Cardinals at the 2019 trade deadline.
The Georgia native played eight games for the Cards in 2019, rushing for 643 yards and eight touchdowns.
Kenyan Drake Bounced Around The League, Playing Separate Stints With The Baltimore Ravens
Drake had the best year of his career the following season, tallying 955 rushing yards and 10 scores, earning himself a two-year deal worth $14.5 million with the Las Vegas Raiders. However, he was released after one season.
He had two stints with the Baltimore Ravens, also spending time with the Indianapolis Colts, Cleveland Browns, and Green Bay Packers.
“It felt like the right time,” he told NFL insider Josina Anderson.
“I love the game, but I don’t love the business. I’m at peace with the decision. I’m healthy and ready to start the next chapter of my life.”
