BBC Breakfast have been reviewing the highlights of 2024 in their weekend editions of the show.
BBC Breakfast viewers were not amused by the review of the year’s films featuring on Sunday’s (December 29) programme and took particular umbrage with the royal year in review.
The films have been running all weekend as the show reminds viewers of 2024’s highlights. Presenter Nina Warhurst, who was occupying the famous red sofa alone for the edition, introduced clips throughout the morning which reflected on the year, including a moving film about rugby legend and MND campaigner Rob Burrow.
However, the reminiscing wasn’t a hit with viewers, and the royal review of the year proved particularly controversial, with a reminder of Prince Harry’s year hitting a particularly sour note with one viewer.
Taking to X to vent one groaned: “More review of the year repeats #BBCBreakfast,” accompanied by rolling eye emojis. They then posted a second complaint writing: “What other review of the year delights will we have tomorrow? I’ve seen the sports one, politics one, maybe #BBCBreakfast.”
A second announced they were switching off saying: “Well this is gloomy #bbcbreakfast” adding in another post “Turning off #bbcbreakfast.”

A third was not happy at coverage at the review of the royal year, raging: “A half-hour of what the royal family did this year. Heaven help us. F*** all of any use……fixed it for you in two seconds. #BBCBreakfast.”
While a fourth was more sympathetic, the segment still didn’t go down well. “Really pulling out stop oh Royal Family had a hard year I wouldn’t wish Cancer on anyone horrible disease.
“But they’ve had the best medical care; they’ve got servants at their beck and call. Kate did nothing I know people with cancer had to work etc #BBCBreakfast,” they pointed out.
A fifth viewer had strong feeling about the mentions of Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle in the clip writing: “Don’t need to see what ginger and whinger did or didn’t do this year ….. #BBCBreakfast.”

However, a sixth disagreed, complimenting Harry on his year while criticising the rest of the family.
“Think that Ginger Winger had a fantastic year good on Prince Harry and Meghan. They’ve had a successful year and thriving. While in England, the Royal Family supported Prince Andrew. It was bad enough that the Epstein saga brought in Chinese spies into their Palaces. #BBCBreakfast,” they opined.
Elsewhere on the show Nina was forced to intervene when South East Asia Correspondent for BBC News, Jonathan Head, started struggling with coughing as he tried to continue with the show while reporting on the Bangkok air crash tragedy.
This prompted Nina to step in as she said: “Jonathan with the latest from Bangkok, maybe grab some water? Thank you Jonathan for the update!”
