Former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is believed to be angry after missing out on a coaching job he thought he had locked up.

Belichick was expected to take over in Atlanta after meeting with the Falcons twice this month. However, reports subsequently emerged claiming that the six-time Super Bowl winner wasn’t the only one the team had eyes on.

Things came to a head late on Thursday, with the Falcons naming Raheem Morris as their new HC.

The Boston Sports Journal’s Greg Bedard has shared some insight into Atlanta’s going with Morris instead of Belichick.

“I think Bill thought he had the Falcons in his back pocket,” he said during an appearance on NBC Sports Boston. “Arthur Blank – I know – certainly wanted to hire Bill early in the process, but got away from him because Arthur Blank is one of those guys who listens to everybody.”

Bedard would add that the veteran coach is “pissed” after losing out on a job he basically already had.

“I think he’s pissed. I think he’s really upset about this. I think he had this job. I can tell you this: I really hope Belichick lands in the NFC South if he gets a next job. I would like to see what he does to the Falcons each time he plays them.”

Belichick is now expected to miss out on a job in this cycle but could be a premium option in 2024.
