The Las Vegas Raiders are adding a former NFL Coach of the Year to their staff.

Per Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, the Raiders are hiring former Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis for an assistant head coach position. The 65-year-old spent the previous five years in an assistant/advisory role at Arizona State.

 

Lewis was head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals from 2003 to 2018, leading the team to four AFC North division crowns and three wild card berths. The 2009 Coach of the Year, however, went 0-7 as the Bengals’ head coach during his 16-year tenure.

Before joining the Bengals, Lewis previously served as the defensive coordinator of the Baltimore Ravens from 1996 to 2001. The Ravens went on to win Super Bowl 34 in the 2000 season, crushing the New York Giants in the big game.

Lewis will work with a rebuilt Las Vegas coaching staff that has also hired former Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury to fill their offensive coordinator vacancy. The Raiders named Antonio Pierce their full-time head coach after he led the team to a 5-4 finish as their interim HC.

Over his 16 years as head coach of the Bengals, Lewis went 131-122-3.
