The Detroit Lions have provided one of the strangest injury updates you’ll ever hear of, this one on superstar center Frank Ragnow.
Per head coach Dan Campbell, Ragnow will play in Sunday’s NFC Championship Game against the San Francisco 49ers at Levi’s Stadium despite having injuries in all of the following: his ankle, toe, knee AND back:
Walking alone with ankle, knee or back pain is tough enough in general…let alone having all three plus a sore toe. How Ragnow is managing to play through all of that in the physically-punishing game of football is simply beyond us, but it’s also a testament of his will to win.
In other good news, the Lions took superstar rookie tight end Sam LaPorta off the injury report with a knee injury, so he too has been cleared to play in the NFC Championship Game.
Having Ragnow in the lineup is a huge boost for a Detroit team that will surely look to run the ball aplenty with the dynamic duo of David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs. Ragnow is one of the game’s best all-around centers, with three Pro Bowl selections and a pair of Second-team All-Pro nods on his resume.
The Lions are playing in their first NFC Championship Game since 1991. They are one of four teams to have never played in a Super Bowl, along with the Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans and Jacksonville Jaguars.
