Britney Spears was forced to eat only certain foods as her father did not want her to get fat
Britney Spears, who was once known as Princess of Pop, is often credited for the revival of teen pop during the late 1990s and early 2000s. With her music, Spears became a worldwide sensation during that era, however, in the late 2000s, Spears’ erratic behavior and personal problems came into the spotlight. Due to all these issues, the singer was involuntarily placed under a conservatorship, that gave her father, James “Jamie” Spears, and attorney Andrew M. Wallet, the power to control her life and career.

Recently, Spears released her memoir called The Woman in Me, in which she talked about the 13-year-long conservatorship that destroyed her life. The singer highlighted that she was not allowed to have certain food items as her father restricted her from accessing them.
Britney Spears was put on a “strict diet” by her father

“The irony was that we had a butler – an extravagance – and I would beg him for real food,” adding, “So for two years, I ate almost nothing but chicken and canned vegetables. Two years is a long time to not be able to eat what you want, especially when it’s your body and your work and your soul making the money that everyone’s living off of. Two years of asking for French fries and being told no. I found it so degrading.”
The point of the diet was to stop the actress from gaining weight, but she revealed that she gained more weight when she was put on that diet. She added that it made her feel that she “wasn’t good enough” but she had to give in as her father was the conservator.
Britney Spears’ conservatorship ended in November 2021

Spears’ conservatorship ended in November 2021. After 13 long years, the singer once again had control over her life as the court suspended Jamie Spears as conservator. In her memoir, Spears also highlighted a story of her paternal grandmother, Emma Jean Spears, who was sent to an asylum by Spears’s paternal grandfather. Emma Jean was overwhelmed by grief as their three-day-old baby had died. At the asylum, she was put on lithium and she later shot herself over the child’s grave.
Even Spears argued that medical professionals medicated her with drugs, including lithium, without her consent during her conservatorship. In September 2021, Spears was named one of the 100 most influential people of 2021 by Time.
