An intriguing trade proposal has the Denver Broncos replacing Russell Wilson with another Pro Bowl signal-caller in the AFC.

The Broncos are widely expected to release Wilson this offseason after benching him for the final two games of 2023. Wilson told reporters that he was indeed benched because of his refusal to adjust the injury guarantees in his contract, as Denver would have owed him $37 million in guarantees for 2025.

 

Ian Cummings of Pro Football Network proposed a blockbuster three-team trade idea that has the Broncos finding Wilson’s replacement in Miami Dolphins’ quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

Cummings proposed the Broncos getting Tagovailoa and the No. 137 pick, with the Dolphins getting Chicago Bears QB Justin Fields plus the No. 81 pick and Denver’s 2025 second-round selection.

As for the Bears, Cummings has them getting the No. 182 pick, plus third and fifth-round picks in 2025 from Miami and Denver, respectively. Finally, Cummings projects the Bears to use the first overall pick on USC QB Caleb Williams.

Fields will most likely be on the trade block if the Bears indeed decide to use the top pick on a quarterback. There’s no indicator that Miami will shop Tagovailoa this offseason, but he isn’t exactly untouchable after a disappointing end to his 2023 season.

Tagovailoa led the NFL with 4,624 passing yards this season, but he also threw an alarming 14 interceptions. His struggles in Miami’s playoff loss to the Kansas City Chiefs (20-of-39 for 199 yards, one touchdown and one interception) have led to calls for the Dolphins to restart at QB.
