Snoop Dogg is one of hip-hop’s most recognizable faces. Since kicking off his career in the early ’90s, the “Gin and Juice” rapper has sold a staggering 35 million records worldwide. But Snoop (born Calvin Broadus Jr.) contains multitudes. The rapper has warned fans not to put him in a box. This fall, he will slide into his very own big red chair as a coach on The Voice.
“I love all forms of music. That’s what people are going to learn about me,” the West Coast icon told Jimmy Fallon in May. Recently, the season 26 coaching panel teamed up for a performance of Four Tops’ 1966 hit “Reach Out I’ll Be There.” And many viewers were shocked to learn that Snoop Dogg can, in fact, sing.
Snoop Dogg Forms Unlikely “Superband” With Fellow ‘The Voice’ Coaches
Dressed to the nines in a red sports coat, Snoop Dogg joined fellow season 26 coaches Michael Bublé, Reba McEntire and Gwen Stefani onstage. Together, the quartet belted a spirited rendition of The Four Tops’ signature hit.
“Out of all the people you thought would become a superband, this wasn’t it,” Bublé said in a behind-the-scenes clip published Wednesday (July 31) by Billboard.
Season 26 Premieres This Fall
It doesn’t get much better than an endorsement from Bublé. The “Feeling Good” crooner is Snoop’s fellow newcomer on the season 26 coaching panel. Reba returns for the third straight year, fresh off a season 25 victory with Asher HaVon. Stefani is back for her eighth go-round after sitting out season 25.
Although Snoop Dogg and Bublé are new to the big red chairs, they do have some history with The Voice. Bublé served as an advisor to Blake Shelton’s team during season 3. Additionally, Snoop appeared on season 20 as a Mega Mentor.
Online, viewers were already noting the chemistry between the season 26 lineup. “Perfect song for them! Snoop is so good, Buble could sing the phone book and make it a #1 hit, Reba Gwen perfection,” wrote one YouTube user. “I love it!”
