Celine Dion made a shock appearance at the 2024 Grammys on Sunday – amid her battle with incurable stiff-person syndrome.

The star, 55, who has stepped away from her singing career in light of her health woes, was visibly emotional as she walked onstage with the support of eldest son Rene-Charles Angelil, 23, to cheers and a standing ovation and to present Album of the Year.

She said: ‘Thank you, all! I love you right back. You look beautiful. When I say I’m happy to be here, I really mean it from my heart.

‘Those who have been blessed enough to be here at the Grammy Awards must never take for granted the tremendous love and joy that music brings to our lives and to people all around the world.

‘And now it gives me great joy to present a Grammy Award that two legends Diana Ross and Sting presented to me 27 years ago. These are the outstanding nominees for album of the year.’

Celine then announced Swift’s acclaimed album Midnights had won the award – making Grammy history as she won the award for the fourth time.

Celine looked incredible in a terracotta coat, chiffon dress and glittering jewelry as she was helped onto stage.

Swift became the first person to win the accolade four times and excitingly made her way to the stage at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

Dion handed her the award, but fans pointed out that Swift didn’t acknowledge her and didn’t make eye contact, quickly looking back to celebrate the moment with her collaborators instead.

However, there appeared to be no ill-feelings as the iconic pair later posed-up happily backstage.

‘Taylor Swift didn’t even hug or acknowledge Celine Dion. Can’t f*****g stand this t**t,’ one upset fan wrote on social media afterwards.

Taylor Swift completely ignoring Celine Dion like she was some trophy model presenter was #GRAMMYS was wild. She’s won this three times and usually such a pro. But to ignore an icon, who is dealing with so much? Yikes.’

‘As someone who has defended Taylor, I can’t defend this. No acknowledgment of Celine whatsoever,’ another added.

The star’s fight to continue her career will be chronicled in new documentary, I Am: Celine Dion.

The hitmaker, announced in December 2022 that she had been diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome – an extremely rare disorder that makes the muscles in the torso and limbs alternate between spasming and being rigid. She revealed she would be stepping away from performing.

The new documentary – captured over more than a year of filming – follows the star as she battles to continue her normal life and career amid her diagnosis – and vows the condition ‘won’t define her’ as she vows to raise awareness.

Dion said in a statement: ‘This last couple of years has been such a challenge for me, the journey from discovering my condition to learning how to live with and manage it, but not to let it define me.

‘As the road to resuming my performing career continues, I have realized how much I have missed it, of being able to see my fans.

‘During this absence, I decided I wanted to document this part of my life, to try to raise awareness of this little-known condition, to help others who share this diagnosis.’

A synopsis reads: ‘From visiting her couture touring wardrobe and personal effects to spending time in the recording studio, the documentary captures a global megastar’s never-before-seen private life.

‘An emotional, energetic, and poetic love letter to music, I Am: Celine Dion captures more than a year of filming as the legendary singer navigates her journey toward living an open and authentic life amidst illness.’

Amazon MGM has landed the worldwide rights to the documentary with the film set to stream on Prime Video.

Irene Taylor directed the documentary made by Sony Music Vision, Sony Music Entertainment Canada and Vermilion Films.

‘I’ve been dealing with problems with my health for a long time and it’s been really difficult for me to face these challenges and to talk about everything that I’ve been going through,’ she said in an emotional video first announcing her condition.

Although she initially postponed her Courage World Tour until the spring of 2024, the Golden Globe winner made the decision to cancel it in May.

‘Even though it breaks my heart, it’s best that we cancel everything now until I’m really ready to be back on stage again,’ she told her loyal fans.

The determined artist appears to have kept her promise she made to keep working on her health. ‘I want you all to know, I’m not giving up … and I can’t wait to see you again!’ she said at the time.

Dion’s sister recently revealed the singer had lost control of her muscles due her condition.

‘Celine is a fighter,’ an insider told  US Weekly. ‘She doesn’t have as much control over her muscles as she did before, but she’s working with doctors and physical therapists to get better.’

The source claimed, ‘Celine has been taking time to focus on her health but plans to take the stage again once she is given the go-ahead by her medical team.’

A second person in the know backs up those assertions.

‘She’s staying positive and upbeat and doing her physical therapy every day,’ the insider said.

‘Getting back on stage in some form is her constant dream, even if she can no longer sing; she just wants to see those shining faces.’

Celine’s condition, which is progressive and incurable, causes the body to attack its own nerve cells and severely impacts mobility; seen in 2019

STIFF-PERSON SYNDROME: INCURABLE NEUROLOGICAL CONDITION THAT LOCKS THE BODY

Stiff person syndrome is an extremely rare disorder that makes the muscles in the torso and limbs alternate between spasming and being rigid.

Estimates suggest it affects around 70 people in the UK and 330 in the US and remains little understood. Around twice as many women as men are hit with it.

The progressive disease sees patients’ stiffness increase over time and can lead to them needing to use a wheelchair.

There tend to be three types of the syndrome:

Classical person man syndrome: When rigidity and spasms are around the back and stomach, and occasionally thighs and neck. It can cause back curvature over time.
Stiff limb syndrome: Spasms especially affect the legs and feet, occasionally causing them to become fixed in place. Hands can also be affected.
Jerking stiff person syndrome: The rarest, most aggressive form, which includes symptoms from both the others, and also affects the head and eyes.

Experts do not know exactly what is behind the disease.

But they believe it may be caused by an autoimmune reaction, when the body attacks its own nerve cells that control muscle movement.

Around 40 per cent of sufferers also have type 1 diabetes, another autoimmune disease. Type 1 diabetes is particularly associated with classical person syndrome.

Other autoimmune conditions like vitiligo, which causes white patches of skin, and pernicious anemia are likewise associated with it.

It is also more common in people with breast, lung, kidney, thyroid or colon cancer, as well as lymphomas, but researchers do not yet know why.

In stiff person syndrome, the immune system attacks a protein that helps make gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), which regulate motor neurons — the nerves that control movement.

Low levels of GABA cause the neurons to continuously fire when they are not supposed to, resulting in the spasms and rigidity.

What are its symptoms?

The main symptoms caused by stiff person syndrome are spasms and rigidity of the torso and limbs.

Spasms can be triggered by loud noises, with the condition also causing heightened sensitivity to sound.

Touch and emotional distress can also be felt more intensely as a result of the condition.

The spasms can be so severe they cause people to fall over or lead to difficulty walking and other disability.

Stress and anxiety are also usually higher in those with the condition, particularly because of the unpredictability of spasms.

The lack of GABA — which regulates anxiety — in their system also affects mental health.

Stiff-person syndrome is a ‘rare autoimmune neurological disorder that most commonly causes muscle stiffness and painful spasms that come and go and can worsen over time,’ according to John Hopkins Medicine.

The Grammy winner was last seen at a hockey game in Las Vegas with her twins Eddy and Nelson, 13 and oldest son Charles-Rene, 22, watching the Montreal Canadiens lose to the Golden Knights.

Celine shared her sons with late husband Rene Angelil.

‘My boys and I had such a fun time visiting with the Montreal Canadiens after their hockey game with Vegas Golden Knights in Las Vegas Monday night,’ the My Heart Will Go On singer posted November 1.

‘They played so well, what a game!! Thank you for meeting us after the game, guys! That was memorable for all of us. Have a great season! – Celine xx… ‘

The Power of Love artist announced last December that she had been diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome and would be stepping away from performing.

Taylor Swift made history as she earned her fourth Album Of The Year after making the shock announcement that she will be releasing a new album on a night where Miley Cyrus also won big including her first ever win at the Grammy Awards 2024.

The 34-year-old hitmaker was presented the top honor at the end of the night for her album Midnights in a surprise appearance by music icon Celine Dion at the star-studded event  which took place at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday evening.

She beat out an impressive field including: Boygenius – The Record, Janelle Monáe – The Age of Pleasure, Jon Batiste – World Music Radio, Lana Del Rey – Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd,Miley Cyrus – Endless Summer Vacation, Olivia Rodrigo – Guts, and SZA – SOS.

The big win made her the first person to ever win the top prize four times as she was previously tied with Stevie Wonder, Frank Sinatra, and Paul Simon for the record.

Taylor thanked her friends and many collaborators during her acceptance speech but one notable name which was missing was boyfriend Travis Kelce who will be playing in the Super Bowl next week.

She said: ‘I want to say. I get to work with one of my best friends who is not only one of my best friends, but also a once in a generation producer that’s Jack Antonoff. I’m so lucky. And my engineer, I want to say thank you to Sam Dew, sound wave.’

Taylor had pal Lana Del Rey join her on stage as she was also nominated in the top category and is also a collaborator with Jack Antonoff and made sure to praise the artist during her speech.

The A-lister continued: ‘ Lana Del Rey who is hiding, but I think so many female artists would not be where they are or have the inspiration without the work she has done. She is a legacy artist, a legend in her prime right now. I’m so lucky to know you went to be your friend.’

The star concluded her triumphant speech by expressing her love of music from the recording studio, to performing concerts around the world, and even earning major awards.

Taylor said: ‘ I would love to tell you that this is the best moment in my life, but I feel this happy when I finish a song or when I cracked the code to a bridge that I love, or when I am short-listing a music video, or when I am rehearsing with my dancers or my band or getting ready to go to Tokyo to play a show.

‘For me, the award is the work. All I want to do is keep being able to do this. I love it so much. It makes me so happy. It makes me unbelievably blown away that it makes some people happy who voted for this award too. All they want to do is keep doing this. So thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to do what I% love so much! Mind blown! Thank you so much!’

An hour-and-a-half before that the A-lister earned her milestone 13th Grammy Award on Sunday evening as she dropped a huge secret that she has been keeping from her Swifties for two years.

It was  then where she dropped the secret news that she had been working on her secret 11th studio album.

‘Even though it’s very important, right, guys? We are very excited. I want to thank everyone who is standing on the stage. Tom, Tyler, Michael, Greg. Our teams, crush, Columbia.’

She went on to thank many people but notable omissions included dad Billy Ray Cyrus, sister Noah Cyrus, and brother Trace Cyrus.

Miley said: My mommy, my sister, my love. My main gaze, because look how good I look. Your wife, your fiance, all the people that we love. Thank you all so much.’

She then ended her grateful acceptance speech with a joke as she said: ‘I don’t think I forgot anyone, but I might have forgotten underwear. Bye.’

Earlier in the night Miley shocked as she beat out Taylor Swift to earn the first Grammy Award of the night which also happened to be her first ever win on music’s biggest night.

The Wrecking Ball singer triumphed in the Best Pop Solo Performance category for her hit track Flowers which was announced by fellow music megastar Mariah Carey.

She beat out the aforementioned Taylor who was nominated for Anti-Hero along with Billie Eilish – What Was I Made For? [From the Motion Picture “Barbie”], Doja Cat – Paint the Town Red, and Olivia Rodrigo – Vampire.

Miley not only was in disbelief that she had won but was also presented the award by Mariah as she said: ‘This MC is going to stand by this emcee, because this is just too iconic. Oh, my god, I just got stuck in the rain and traffic and thought I was going to miss this moment and I could have missed the award, that’s fine, but not to Mariah Carey!

‘I just saw you at the Hollywood Bowl and it was everything. I got sat in my lucky number 3 seat, so there is a story you want to tell that sums up this moment and I was not going to tell it, but now Mariah is here. ‘

Miley went on to tell a sweet story about a little boy capturing a butterfly and how that relates to her.

One of the biggest awards of the night – Song Of The Year- went to Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas for What Was I Made For? which was featured on the soundtrack for top grossing film of 2023 Barbie.

Billie, 22, and her 26-year-old brother beat out quite the field including: Dua Lipa – Dance the Night (also from Barbie the Album), Jon Batiste – Butterfly, Lana Del Rey – A&W, Miley Cyrus – Flowers, Olivia Rodrigo – Vampire, SZA – Kill Bill, and Taylor Swift – Anti-Hero.

The hitmaker took to the podium to accept the honor as she recognized her fellow nominees by beginning her speech saying: ‘No, what? Oh, my god. No, whoops, yikes. Damn, that stupid, guys. I was looking at everyone’s faces and I leaned over and I was like not a chance! I just want to say everyone in this category, like — that was a crazy list of incredible people, incredible artists, incredible music!

‘I feel crazy right now. Damn, dude. I am shocked out of my balls. Thank you to the members of the Recording Academy. Thank you to my brother who is my best friend in the world and makes me the person I am today.’

She finished her speech by talking about what an honor it was to be part of the film which earned 1.4billion in the box office.

Billie said: ‘Thank you to go to Greta Gerwig for making the best movie of the year. Thank you for Paul walker for having meeting where he said we should have a song on the soundtrack and he was like do you want to be on the Barbie soundtrack.

‘We are so lucky. We continue to be deeply, led deeply privileged lucky people. It’s hard to feel deserving ever, but we definitely don’t right now. We are very humble and grateful.’

She concluded her speech: ‘So there was a little boy that all he wanted for his birthday was a butterfly and so his parents gave him a butterfly net, and he was so excited. He went out in the sun and started swinging and swinging, but with no luck he sat down on the ground, he finally let go and he surrendered and he was okay that he was not going to capture this beautiful.

‘And right when he did is when the butterfly came and landed right on the tip of his nose. And this song Flowers is my butterfly. Thank you.’

SZA was the most nominated artist coming into the event as she even earned two prior to the gala airing but she hit the stage first when she took home  Best R&B Song.

The 2024 Grammy Awards honored music’s brightest stars in a celebration held at the Crypto.com Arena in downtown Los Angeles on February 4.

Hosted by Trevor Noah, this year’s celebration aired live at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on CBS and its streaming service Paramount+.

Taylor already made history in the Album of the Year category and was tied for three previous wins with music legends Frank Sinatra, Paul Simon and Stevie Wonder – until Sunday.

Taylor made history as she earned her fourth Album Of The Year after making the shock announcement that she will be releasing a new album.

Taylor became the first-ever person to win the category four times after Midnights ended up victorious this year.

The 34-year-old hitmaker was presented the top honor at the end of the night for her album Midnights in a surprise appearance by music icon Celine Dion, who suffers from stiff person syndrome.

Taylor had pal Lana Del Rey join her on stage as she was also nominated in the top category and is also a collaborator with Jack Antonoff and made sure to praise the artist during her speech.

Taylor said: ‘ Lana Del Rey who is hiding, but I think so many female artists would not be where they are or have the inspiration without the work she has done. She is a legacy artist, a legend in her prime right now. I’m so lucky to know you went to be your friend.’

The singer, who is in a relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, also won Best Pop Vocal Album for Midnights.

During her acceptance speech, she shocked the world when she announced her new album dropping – The Tortured Poets Department – out on April 19.

Fans speculated she was announced the drop date of Reputation, Taylor’s Version instead.

Miley Cyrus also won big at the Grammy Awards 2024.

She beat Taylor to earn the first Grammy Award of the night on Sunday – and her first Grammy ever.

The 31-year-old singer triumphed in the Best Pop Solo Performance category for her song Flowers – which was presented to her by Mariah Carey.

Miley won another Grammy – Record of the Year for her song Flowers.
