Dakota Fanning revealed that she got her very first cell phone from Tom Cruise when she was 11-years-old and added that the actor has sent her a birthday gift every year since.

The Uptown Girls actress, 30 – who recently stated that she ‘only learned to drive four years ago’ – opened up about the special gift during a joint interview with her Ripley co-star Andrew Scott for Harper’s Bazaar earlier this week.

At one point as the two stars quizzed each other, the Irish-born star, 47, was given the question: ‘Who gave Dakota her first cell phone?’

After quickly pondering, Scott guessed, ‘Okay, well it’s gotta be some Hollywood icon… Tom Cruise?’

Fanning happily confirmed that Andrew was correct, and he excitedly exclaimed, ‘Yes!’

‘It was a Motorola Razr,’ the actress explained, with her co-star asking, ‘Wow! Were you so excited?’

‘Oh my God, I was so excited,’ Dakota answered, but humorously added, ‘I didn’t have anyone to call or text at the time. You know, I was 11…But I loved having it!’

When questioned if she ‘still keeps in touch’ with Cruise, Fanning expressed, ‘Tom still sends me a birthday gift every year and has since that birthday.’

Scott cut in to gush, ‘How wonderful!’ with The Alienist star adding that it is ‘so thoughtful.’

Before moving onto the next question during the interview, Andrew jokingly stated that Tom ‘has never given me anything, nothing…’

Both Dakota and Tom starred together in the 2005 film, War Of The Worlds, and in the past, the actress has opened up about their friendship.

During a previous appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, she talked about how Cruise sends her ‘beautiful gifts’ on her birthday.

‘It’s really kind,’ she explained. ‘And I always think, ‘Oh, when I’m 18 he’ll probably stop, or 21, he’ll stop.” And he…every year. It’s really kind.’

In regards to what kind of presents the Mission Impossible actor will give her, Fanning replied with, ‘It’s usually shoes.’

Dakota has been keeping busy and recently took on the role of Marge Sherwood in the Netflix thriller series titled, Ripley.

Other stars that have been cast in the project – which was released earlier this month on April 4 – include Andrew Scott, Johnny Flynn, Eliot Sumner and also Margherita Buy.

The premise follows, ‘A grifter named Ripley living in New York during the 1960s is hired by a wealthy man to bring his vagabond son home from Italy,’ per an official IMDB synopsis.

The show is based on the 1955 crime novel, The Talented Mr. Ripley, written by Patricia Highsmith. A movie of the same name was released in 1999 and starred Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jude Law and Cate Blanchett.

Upon the release, critics have claimed that Dakota’s portrayal of Marge in the series, ‘can’t compete with Gwyneth Paltrow.’

However, while recently talking to British Vogue, Fanning opened up about her own depiction of the character.

‘I revisit the film because I love it, but I didn’t find it helpful in terms of playing Marge or stepping into this world because the vibe of this is entirely separate,’ she explained to the outlet.

While promoting the Netflix series, both Andrew and Dakota also stopped by an interview for Elle earlier this month, where the actress revealed that she learned to drive only four years earlier.

‘I only learned to drive four years ago,’ Fanning informed Scott after asking him why he hasn’t learned to drive yet.

‘That makes me feel better,’ the Fleabag actor expressed. ‘I sort of do know a tiny little bit how to drive. But I live in Central London and it’s my carbon footprint.’

Dakota began her professional acting career at the age of five, with her sister Elle Fanning also following suit.

However, while talking to PORTER earlier this month, the Twilight alum explained that she would ‘choose having kids’ over her Hollywood career.  

‘Having kids is probably more important to me than anything, even being an actor,’ Fanning explained to the publication.

‘If somebody said I had to choose, I would choose having kids. I’m one of those people who has always felt that pull.’

However, she expressed, ‘Being an actor is a huge part of my identity. I don’t really know who I would be without it,’ while adding, ‘I also have a desire to set up my life and career so that I always have a choice.’

‘I don’t know how I’ll feel when that time in my life comes – and how much I’ll want to work. But, because I don’t have that at the moment, I’m trying to take advantage of the adventures now.’

‘I’m trying to push myself to keep saying yes to things that make me uncomfortable, to keep going to places for long periods of time that maybe I’m scared to do because – God willing – one day, it won’t be as easy.’
