The Kansas City Chiefs have been the talk of the town but for all the wrong reasons. Instead of celebrating the Chiefs and the history they are making—the history they are on their way to making with a win over the Buffalo Bills—they are tearing them down and discrediting everything they have done to get to where they are.
No one wins three Super Bowls in a row. No, seriously, no one has ever won three in a row. The Chiefs would be the first ever to do it if they did. And, that would ultimately put Patrick Mahomes right there next to Tom Brady. So, yeah, everyone wants the Chiefs to lose just like everyone wanted the New England Patriots to lose when they were the dynasty that they were.
But, this “rigged, officiating, refs on the Chiefs side,” thing has really gotten out of hand. Have the Chiefs had some calls go their way? Yes. Every team in the NFL does. Have there been some really bad calls? Yes. The officiating as a whole this year is very bad. But, the Chiefs play on national TV almost every week, so everyone sees the mistakes made in those games.
When you look at the numbers, there is no way you can justify the claim that the Chiefs are cheating or the refs are, etc. But, then you have guys like Adam Schefter tweeting out what he did Sunday morning before the AFC Championship.
Schefter, who has 11 million followers, works for ESPN and is supposed to remain nonbiased in everything he does, especially as a reporter and insider. His tweet was a display of poor journalism based on nothing but opinion, and he tweeted it out knowing what he was doing.
Later, Eric Stonestreet, the famous actor from Modern Family and a huge Chiefs fan, went on NFL Gameday on NFL Network to call out Adam Schefter. And, man, he eviscerated him. Take a listen:
This type of poor journalism cannot continue to happen from people with the platform like Schefter has. And I’m glad Stonestreet is calling him out, as have guys like Nick Wright of Fox Sports.
