The Entertainer’s Basketball Classic has drawn some of the best NBA players to play at the iconic Rucker Park during the summer. We’ve seen too many of these NBA stars drop big games in the tournament, and one of those who had a massive scoring game was Kevin Durant.

Rapper Fat Joe, the team owner of the EBC team Terror Squad, recalls KD putting on a show at Harlem’s favorite playground. According to the Bronx-born musician, Durant was so unstoppable that he drew the ire of the crowd, who literally chased him out of the court.

“Kevin Durant, he scored 82 points in the third quarter,” recalled Fat Joe during an appearance on The Roommates podcast. “Like he don’t like me telling this story. They chased him out of the Rucker. Like they wanted to beat him up. He whipped their a** so bad, that they literally wanted to beat him up out there. And he was doing like almost like the Caitlin Clark show.”

KD was doing the Caitlin Clark show

In 2011, during the NBA lockout, KD joined Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Julius Erving, Allen Iverson, and Kobe Bryant as NBA stars who made their mark at Rucker Park.

Durant played for the team DC Power and faced the Sean Bell All-Stars during that unforgettable game. KD was then playing for the OKC Thunder and was the NBA’s reigning scoring champion, so it wasn’t surprising that he had a scoring explosion in that game.

He was there checking it out ‘Woosh do a three,'” added Fat Joe. “I mean from the other side. I’m not talking about halfcourt. I was there at the game. I’m not talking about halfcourt. They checked it out and passed it to him. And five guys would go like this, and he was hitting them sh** water, water, water. He scored 80 points. I said, ‘Oh wow.’ I was out there. They chased him into the truck, and he had to go.”

But KD scored ‘only’ 66 in that game

Durant scored 23 first-half points in that game before catching fire in the second half. In the fourth quarter, he put on a show with four consecutive three-pointers against double and triple teams, the last of which sent the crowd into a frenzy and got them on the court, mobbing Durant.

But while it was true that Durant put on a dazzling display of offensive firepower that day, KD scored ‘only’ 66 points in that unforgettable game, not 80, as Fat Joe claimed. Still, Durant’s performance was the second-highest-scoring game in EBC history, just two points short of the record set by Steve Burtt in 2007. It was also just eight points off the Rucker Park scoring record of 74 points set by Joe ‘The Destroyer’ Hammond.

DC power point guard Randy’ White Chocolate’ Hill said back then that Durant’s performance would never be forgotten in Harlem. Well, maybe KD was really that good that night that Fat Joe lost count of how many points he scored. He didn’t forget, however, that the crowd chased KD into the truck after putting on a show.

After listening to his interview, Durant went on X to deny that he was chased out of Rucker Park that day. KD called Fat Joe’s story a ‘podcast lie’ and claimed he never felt threatened after his 66-point performance.

It’s doubtful that Kevin was in any kind of danger from the crowd because he put on a show like no other NBA star before or after him. Fans at Rucker recognize great basketball talent when they see it, and KD definitely belongs in that upper echelon of NBA superstars.
