Andy Reid got his 300th career coaching victory with the Chiefs’ 23-14 win over the Texans
on Saturday, and my colleague Vahe Gregorian had a nice look at his remarkable career.
What people may not realize is that most of those victories with the Chiefs were because of
NFL game officials.

I’m kidding, but, phew, there was a lot of chatter about how NFL referees continually help
the Chiefs following KC’s AFC Divisional Round playoff victory.
That bubbled up after former Colts and Buccaneers coach Tony Dungy shared a message
Sunday about Reid on X.

“There’s been a lot of conversation about the Chiefs win yesterday but I have to take my hat
off to Andy Reid & the staff. 7 straight AFC Championship games is unbelievable ” Dungy wrote

“People don’t realize how hard it is to get to one championship game. I coached with some

reat organizations and only got to 4 Championship games in 28 years. 7 in a row is hard to
fathom. That is some tremendous coaching.

” A fan responded to Dungy by writing: “Great coach. But man, it helps when you’ve got the
fs in your back pocket, extending drives for you with bogus calls. Teams that turned the
ball over 0 times and outgained their opponents by 100+ yards were 49-0 in playoff history.
Until yesterday in KC. A coincidence I’m sure.

” Dungy, who works for NBC Sports, was having none of that conspiracy talk and crushed
that fan.

“Did any of those teams give up a long opening kickoff return, miss 3 kicks, have their QB
get sacked 8 times and only score 12 points of their own?” Dungy asked. Zing.
