One Direction could be set to reunite again, for the first time since their split in 2016, as Liam Payne is honoured at the BRIT Awards
One Direction could reunite on stage for the first time since their split in 2016, as Liam Payne is set to be honoured at this year’s BRIT Awards
Liam tragically died on October 16, 2024, aged 31, after falling from a third-floor balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. An autopsy ruled that Liam had died instantly after his fall which caused “multiple traumatic injuries” and subsequently led to “internal and external haemorrhage.”
It has been reported that there are plans for the BRIT Awards to pay tribute to the singer, who left behind his seven-year-old son Bear, who he shared with former X Factor judge Cheryl
Source have now suggested that the remaining members of One Direction – Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan – could come together again for a performance in tribute to their late bandmate.

A source told The Sun : “The tribute to Liam at this year’s awards show has caused a real buzz and speculation that the remaining One Direction bandmates could finally come back together again on stage. It would be an entirely fitting way to honour Liam and talks are already under way about how to make this segment of the BRITs unforgettable.”
The source added that the One Directions would not be alone and that other musicians may be involved in the tribute. The band has scooped seven awards at the BRITs over the years, since they were formed on the ITV talent show in 2010.

According to a show insider, Liam “loved” the event and it was suggested that he will “forever be part of the show’s history.” The insider continued: “It’s still in the very early stages of preparation and the finer details are still being worked out, with official approaches to be made in coming weeks. But there are set to be a mixture of performances, tasteful photo and video montages and a live orchestra.”
Clevedon Pier have recently unveiled a plaque dedicated to Liam for a special reason. Liam and his former One Direction bandmates famously filmed parts of the video for their song, You & I on the pier on March 25, 2014.
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, the official account for Clevedon Pier shared an image of the plaque, alongside the original documenting their day on the pier. The latest reads: “Remembering Liam Payne – One Direction. 29.08.1993 – 16.10.2024.” It also included the lyrics: “If you’re lost just look for me, you’ll find me in the region of the summer stars,” taken from the bands song, Walking in the Wind.”
