Harry Styles’ co-star in an upcoming film says he and the pop star spent days rehearsing for their sex scenes.
David Dawson, 40, and Styles, 28, will star alongside Emma Corrin in “My Policeman,” set to be released on Prime Video on November 4 after screening in some British cinemas from October 21.
According to the synopsis on Amazon, it is a “tale of forbidden romance and changing social conventions.” It follows the changing relationships between a policeman, played by Styles, a teacher, played by Corrin, and a museum curator, played by Dawson, over decades.
In an interview with The Times of London, Dawson said he, Styles, and Corrin were given three weeks to rehearse before filming, which helped them develop their on-screen chemistry.
Preparations included rehearsing for extensive sex scenes between Dawson and Styles, which the actor said took “a good few days.”
“Michael [Grandage, the director] brought on board an intimacy co-ordinator and it was very much a collaboration. It felt like a beautiful dance,” Dawson said.
More than that, the British actor said he and Styles had conversations about making each other feel comfortable throughout the scenes.
“Me and Harry promised each other on day one that we would always look out for each other, that we would always continue to check in with each other. Harry and I wanted those scenes to be the best they could be,” Dawson added.
Styles previously shared his own thoughts about what it was like to film sex scenes in “My Policeman,” and praised Grandage’s direction.
“So much of gay sex in films is two guys going at it, and it kind of removes the tenderness from it,” Styles told Rolling Stone in an interview published in August. “There will be, I would imagine, some people who watch it who were very much alive during this time when it was illegal to be gay, and [Michael] wanted to show that it’s tender and loving and sensitive.”
It is Styles’ second appearance in a feature film released this year following “Don’t Worry Darling,” which is expected to stream on HBO Max following its theatrical release.
