Many professional athletes hailed their fathers on Sunday as it was Father’s Day. Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese wasn’t one of them.

As a matter of fact, Reese has never spoken publicly about her dad.

According to a 2019 article from ESPN detailing Reese’s college recruitment when she was coming out of high school, she wasn’t in contact with her father back then.

“Angel Reese, though, is not in contact with her father,” the piece reads. “Instead, Reese said, it’s been other people who have helped raise her, such as her maternal grandparents, Curtis and Barbara Webb.”

Several years have passed since the article was written, so things may have changed between Reese and her father. But, if that’s the case, she hasn’t given any indication.

A story from February this year quotes Reese as saying, “My mom worked hard [when I was] growing up, raising us by herself. So [securing an NCAA basketball scholarship] was my payback to her.”

Angel Reese Comes From A Basketball-Playing Family

According to ESPN, both of Angel Reese’s parents played basketball.

“She taught me how to play,” the former LSU star said in an April 11 Women’s Health Article. “Most of my family plays basketball, so I kind of had to play. I tried ballet, gymnastics, and things like that, but nothing worked except for basketball.”

Reese’s father, Michael Reese, played college ball at Boston College and Loyola. He also played professionally overseas.

However, it was her mom who inspired her to play.

“I used to go to my mom’s games when I was younger,” Reese said, according to PEOPLE. “She used to play in a little league, and I used to always go watch her games on Sundays. That was something that was always inspiring to me.”
