However, Pratt’s character, Jim, is roused from hibernation too soon after an asteroid collision damages one of the pods.

After being on his own for a year, Jim develops feelings for Lawrence’s character, Aurora, and makes the problematic and ethically troubling decision to wake her up without her consent. The plot’s believability was also questioned because it seemed unrealistic for the characters to be unprepared for the potential dangers of space travel.

Unfortunately, even the best acting in the world couldn’t save Passengers because it missed opportunities to explore these ethical dilemmas and didn’t have a strong enough story.

Adele, the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter, was that friend. Adele’s wise counsel warned Lawrence about the glut of space movies in Hollywood, making an analogy to the previous fad of vampire films.
