Kim Kardashian is on the cover of yet another magazine, but this one is a bit different.
The 42-year-old reality star, who has been enjoying some time in New York, is on the cover of the Time 100 Most Influential Companies issue.
Her company SKIMS is included in a long list that includes Taco Bell, Disney and TikTok where she has eight million followers in addition to the 350 million who already follow her on Instagram.
The magazine took advantage of Kim’s curves to draw attention to the issue, styling her in a tight black Skims inspired body suit and black gloves with a leather maxi skirt with cutouts and buckles down the right leg.
Her hair was styled straight and she wore natural looking makeup with a rose gold lip.
The multi-millionaire is modest when she speaks about the success of her shapewear company that launched in 2019 and was valued at $3.2 billion in 2022.
‘I feel like, OK, I did it,’ she said.
The Kardashians star, who had signed some lucrative branding deals in the past, explained the idea to create a shapewear brand came from her own needs.
‘It started off with simply finding shapewear that was a skin tone that would match my color, ‘ she explained. ‘I used to take my shapewear and dye it with tea bags and coffee in the bathtub.’
She would also cut off one leg of her undergarments to allow her to wear a dress or skirt with a high slit, and has since incorporated that idea into her offerings in 10 shades ranging from sand to onyx.
The company, in which Kim is the largest shareholder, has since expanded to include loungewear, panties and bras, and on Thursday, will launch its latest line, sports wear.
She also revealed Skims will be releasing a line of men’s loungewear in the fall, and will create some male friendly shapewear in the future.
The trendsetter admitted she is the shape model for Skims and usually spends hours every week trying on the product.
‘I always like to see it on myself,’ she said. ‘I can absolutely tell when I miss a few drops.’
The designer estimates she has tried on some 7,000 garments since beginning the enterprise.
What may surprise her fans and critics is that the woman with an international following admitted ‘I still have, like, imposter syndrome or whatever, but I think that’s part of what keeps me going.’
She has turned that drive into the founding of two other businesses, SKKN, as skincare line, and SKKY, an investment company.
At 42, she acknowledged there’s a ‘time stamp’ on her career as an influencer.
‘I understand that maybe in my 50s, I’m not going to be wanting to pose in my underwear,’ she said, adding,’ We’ll do anything we can to look as young as we can. We’re not going to go out not trying.’
But she is creating a legacy for her four children, North, 10, Saint, seven, Chicago, five and Psalm, four, although she hasn’t quite figured out how to bring them into the business.
She and her oldest daughter North, 10, have started their own TikTok account, Kim and North, which has 16.2 million followers.
The Keeping Up with the Kardashians alum shares all of her children with ex-husband Kanye West, 46.
Kim revealed it was North who introduced her to the music of Ice Spice which inspired a Skims campaign with the 23-year-old hip hop artist.
‘Everyday the kid gets to switch who they want to listen to and plug in their music on the way to school and one day North was listening to Ice Spice, and I didn’t know who that was at the time,’ she said.
‘I was like, “this is the moment where I feel really old where my daughter is now teaching me what’s cool.”‘
The collaboration landed Kim in some hot water with her fans and her ex, after North uploaded a video of herself dressed as Ice Spice and rapping along to some of the artist’s more salty lyrics.
The busy mom said she was out of town at the time, and said okay to sharing the video without seeing it first.
‘As soon as I saw the words, I was like, “Oh no, we’re taking this down,”.
‘And then, I saw on the internet, [people saying] “Kanye was right,” and maybe he was in that instance,’ she admitted. ‘But she loves making slime videos and doing her little hair tutorials, and I will fight for her to be creative.’
‘It’s always a compromise,’ she said of co-parenting with the trouble rapper.
‘No one’s always going to agree and you just have to do the best you can as a parent to try and protect your kids, but also let them be creative.’
