BBC Breakfast viewers took to X today to debate tweets made about UK politics by the richest man in the world and Tesla boss, Elon Musk.
BBC Breakfast attracted complaints this morning
BBC Breakfast fans blasted the show for choosing to highlight tweets made by Elon Musk about Britain, with some arguing that he should avoid involvement in international politics.
The tech billionaire, who also owns X, has made a series of tweets criticising government handling of grooming gangs, child rape and illegal immigration. However, tensions ran high as viewers debated whether he should be the one making the comments.
One viewer commented: “BBC Promotes Musk: The trouble is… that when BBC News are reporting the latest unhinged tweet issued by ELON MUSK they deliver it with the same weight & substance as they do a UK elected politician #bbcbreakfast #BBCNewswatch @BBCNewswatch @BBCBreakfast.”
Another raged: “Samira Ahmed: ‘It’s not entirely clear why a South African born tech billionaire based in Texas has been paying so much attention to UK politics’. It’s crystal clear. Don’t insult us and stop promoting him.”
A third argued: “#Newswatch Spent the last four minutes ‘repeating’ all the tweets ‘in full’ made by Musk on the BBC! That people were complaining about!!! #BBCBreakfast.”
Some felt the debate was getting too much airtime and proving unpopular with viewers, with one asking: @BBCNews why do you bother to make ‘Newswatch’ as any opinion given by the public you either disagree or ignore!”
However, many felt that SpaceX owner Musk’s points about the grooming gangs scandal being mishandled, as well as his criticism of Keir Starmer, were valid. The biggest part of the debate concerned whether he, as an American citizen, should be involving himself and what his motives might be.

Elon Musk’s tweets have caused a stir
Although the wildfires in Los Angeles is currently dominating headlines over in the USA, the majority of Musk’s recent tweets have been about British policies.
In one he raged: “Who provides funding to Starmer and the Labour Party? Apparently, for example, I was reading that some hedge fund gave them £5M from a dodgy island in the Caribbean.”
In another, he continued: “Why is Starmer harboring known terrorists?” He attached a tweet written by a UAE resident which read: “Islamist terrorists, we ban them, you welcome them. Today, my country, the UAE, placed 19 individuals and entities on its Local Terrorist List for their direct ties to the terrorist organization Muslim Brotherhood.
“Shockingly, these groups operate freely in Britain under Keir Starmer’s watch!”
Keir Starmer has come under fire in furious tweets made by Elon Musk
The tweet continued: “The UAE has banned the Muslim Brotherhood because we recognize them for what they truly are: breeders of extremism, the root from which Hamas, Al-Qaeda, and ISIS emerged. How many more warnings will it take before you stop prioritizing political correctness over your people’s safety?”
He also reposted a tweet suggesting that he was being “probed” by a head of counter-terrorism policing in the UK “over his posts on ?????? pertaining to the grooming gang scandal”.
He shot back: “The fox is guarding the henhouse.”
Someone else tweeted: “Imagine having an extremist unit monitor Elon Musk’s tweet, but not have an inquiry into grooming gangs!”
Musk continues to make numerous tweets each day relating to the British political situation – and also recently argued that Nigel Farage was not fit to run the Reform Party, in calls for a new leader.
