The Tennessee Titans are finally giving third-year quarterback Malik Willis a change of scenery after two unproductive seasons.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Titans are trading Malik Willis to the Green Bay Packers in exchange for a 2025 seventh-round draft pick. That means free agent pickup Mason Rudolph will be the second-stringer behind starter Will Levis in the Music City.

WIth the move, Green Bay adds some much-needed quarterback insurance behind starter Jordan Love. Along with Willis, the Packers’ other backup signal-callers are Sean Clifford and Michael Pratt.

The roster cut deadline is Tuesday, so the Titans were likely going to release Malik Willis if they didn’t find a taker via trade. With Willis coming to Green Bay, the Packers will presumably cut one of Pratt or Clifford.

The 25-year-old Malik Willis was regarded as one of the top QB prospects in a dull class for signal-callers in 2022. He was drafted in the third round (86th overall) by Tennessee in 2022, making Willis the third QB taken behind Kenny Pickett (20th to the Pittsburgh Steelers) and Desmond Ridder (74th to the Atlanta Falcons).

Willis appeared in eight games for the Titans in his rookie year and made three starts. The Liberty product struggled in those games, completing only 50.8 percent of pass attempts for 276 yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions.

Malik Willis Needed A New Team

It was clear from the beginning that the Titans were never sold on Willis despite using a third-round pick on him two years ago. The decision to use a 2023 second-round pick on Levis all but sealed Willis’ long-term fate in Tennessee.

Willis isn’t going to take the starting job from Jordan Love in Green Bay, but it doesn’t hurt to learn from a top-tier head coach in Matt LaFleur to rebuild his game and confidence. Willis might even see some action in garbage time, allowing him to showcase his talents before becoming a free agent in 2026.
