Buffalo Bills superstar quarterback Josh Allen seemingly took a shot at Houston Texans star wide receiver and his former teammate, Stefon Diggs, after leading his team to a blowout win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday night.
Josh Allen was near-perfect once again in the Bills’ 47-10 win on “Monday Night Football,” completing 23 pass attempts for 263 yards, four touchdowns, zero interceptions and a team-leading 44 rushing yards.
Through his first three games of 2023, Buffalo’s signal-caller now has a ridiculous 75.0 completion percentage for 634 yards, seven touchdowns, zero picks and two rushing touchdowns.
So much for Josh Allen and the Bills’ offense regressing after trading a disgruntled Diggs to the Texans in April, huh?
Speaking to reporters after the game, Allen took a subtle shot at Diggs by voicing his appreciation for the selflessness of Buffalo’s offensive weapons, via ESPN’s Alaina Getzenberg:
“When guys get to buy into this and really understand, like, ‘I may not get the ball four or five times thrown to me a game, but the one or two times I don’t, I’m going to have opportunities.’
And it’s a fun and wonderful thing when you got a bunch of guys that don’t care about the stats, they don’t care about the touchdowns. And again, I think throughout practice we just had this mindset of, like, ‘Hey let’s just do things the right way and find ways to win football games.’ That’s what we’re doing right now.”
It’s no secret that Diggs’ behavior and attitude became a problem for the Bills. He memorably berated his quarterback during the club’s 2022 Divisional Round loss to the Cincinnati Bengals and left the locker room early following the loss.
While losing a consistent 1,000-yard receiver was a concern for Buffalo on paper, some also believed that Josh Allen would fare better without forcing the ball to Stefon Diggs and spreading it out to his new-look supporting cast. So far, that couldn’t ring more true.
Diggs will get an opportunity to prove the Bills wrong when his old mates come to Houston for a showdown with the Texans in Week 5.
Josh Allen Is The Early MVP Front-Runner
If the season were to end today, Allen might have unanimously taken home league MVP honors. He is playing out of his mind right now, and the 28-year-old is doing it without a true superstar pass-catcher.
There’s plenty of season left. But right now, Allen has to be considered the player to beat in the 2024 MVP race.
