Coronation Street residents will start to figure out the truth about Joel Deering it seems following Lauren Bolton’s dramatic return to the ITV soap this week

Coronation Street actress Channique Sterling-Brown has teased what’s ahead after the Lauren Bolton twist, with Joel Deering possibly facing his downfall.

The Dee-Dee Bailey actress spoke exclusively to The Mirror and spilled on the fallout to the news that teenager Lauren is alive and back on the show, months on from seemingly being killed off. Not only that, but the latest episode of the ITV soap also confirmed Lauren was pregnant with Joel’s child.

Dee-Dee’s fiancé Joel came face-to-face with Lauren at the hospital during Tuesday’s episode, as flashbacks revealed how he’d groomed her over months, before he attacked her and left her for dead in February. We also saw how Lauren fled the scene and stayed in hiding until her return this week.

But Lauren’s comeback is about to “shake things up” according to soap star Channique, who teased Lauren’s return will lead to Joel’s lies possibly being rumbled by other residents on the show. She hinted that more than one character could be behind his inevitable downfall, as the pressure mounts on him to keep his lies under wraps.

She told us: “The thing is for Dee-Dee and Joel, Joel loves Dee-Dee, he’s in love with her and he’s doing everything he can to maintain that version of himself. Now that Lauren is alive and hopefully returning to Weatherfield, I think the pressure of his lies is gonna mount up on him.

“As much as Dee-Dee has rose-tinted glasses on, there’s no reason for her to not [work it out]. She’s a tough girl, she can read people so I do think in the coming weeks we are gonna see a shift to their relationship.”

On the pair’s looming wedding, she added: “It’s really exciting and fun for me and Calum, playing this couple who are excited for their wedding. Everyone loves a wedding, it’s exciting knowing this story and Cait [Fitton] is back.

“I’m excited to see how this is gonna shake up the street. Lauren’s return is gonna shake things up for a lot of residents in Weatherfield. It is gonna be very interesting.” On what could lead to Joel’s downfall, she said: “I think there’s gonna be a lot of detective work going on, detective Bethany and Dee-Dee.

“I do think over the next few weeks we are gonna learn more about Joel, and more about some of the crimes he’s committed basically. I think the characters in the show are gonna be key to revealing that.” She went on: “Joel is a very good liar. I think he is treading water but he’s very good at it. I think really his time is gonna run out if Dee-Dee starts see the cracks.”
