Football fans are teeing off on Cris Collinsworth for making something up during the Dallas Cowboys-San Francisco 49ers “Sunday Night Football” game.

Cris Collinsworth and Mike Tirico were on the call for the marquee showdown between the two longtime NFC rivals tonight. But during the first half, Collinsworth made headlines for all the wrong reasons.

Collinsworth was praising 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy for hanging in the pocket and completing a pass to rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall. Collinsworth stated that Purdy was “gonna get drilled on this one…knew he was gonna get hit” on the play.

But as you can see on the replay, Purdy wasn’t hit on the play at all:

Social media wasted no time destroying Cris Collinsworth for wrongfully stating that Purdy got hit on the play:

Yeah, not Cris Collinsworth’s finest moment of NFL analysis. Unless he meant Pearsall and not Purdy on that play?

Cris Collinsworth Will Remain With NBC Long-Term

Last month, it was reported that the former NFL star wide receiver was closing in on a lucrative long-term extension with NBC Sports. Collinsworth was been the analyst on TNF since 2009. His current deal expires in 2026.
