Meghan Markle’s emotional new Instagram video has divided royal fans, with many praising the Duchess of Sussex for her latest move while others have been more critical.

The Duchess posted a new clip of her opening a special gift donated by singer Billie Eilish for a family whose home burnt down in the Los Angeles wildfires.

Meghan explained how she got in touch with a mother and daughter whose home was “left in ashes” by the blazes that destroyed more than 12,000 homes.

Among the 15-year-old’s possessions lost in the fire was a Billie Eilish T-shirt that was left in the washing machine.

Meghan told her followers: “I said ‘well, I don’t know Billie Eilish but I’m going to figure out how to get you this shirt’.

“I thought of everybody I knew, and I made a voice note and I was like, ‘please, can someone get this voice note to Billie Eilish’.”

In the video, Meghan opens a package to reveal the singer had signed a box full of merchandise for the 15-year-old.

The Duchess wrote in the video caption: “Let’s keep supporting those affected by the California wildfires.”

But her latest move has divided royal fans, with some claiming she made it “all about herself” and that it was “tone-deaf”, while others praised her “energy”.

One user uploaded a screenshot of the video with the message “Meghan Markle making it all about herself” on X, adding: “Someone’s lost their home and she is gushing about how amazing she is for getting them some signed merch. This disaster tourism has now turned into disaster merching.”

A second one agreed, saying: “She’s egocentric, egotistical, self-absorbed, self-indulgent, selfish, narcissistic woman, makes everything come back around to #MeMe.”

A fourth one commented: “So tone-deaf and disgusting.”

A fifth one asked: “Why not just do a good deed and not make a video about it? ”

A fifth one said: “Wow, you are so thoughtful and kind! What an amazing thing you did.”
