David Foster had a big surprise for the audience at his show at Encore Theater in Las Vegas. The composer was bantering on stage with his wife Katharine McPhee before announcing that he was going to FaceTime Michael Bublé, saying that he had “no idea” where he was. Bublé answered but said he “can’t talk loud because I’m in a show”. The audience realised something was up and then Bublé stood up from the crowd to a big applause.
Rather than his usual sharp suit, Bublé was at the concert with his kids in a beanie, jumper and jeans. After a bit of a chat, Foster informed the trad pop star that “I hate to do this to you, you’re such a good sport, but I’m going to make you sing.” The band started playing the intro chords to Bublé favourite “Feeling Good” and the man with the golden voice did what he does best, right there amongst the crowd. Check out the video for yourself below.
Bublé at first said that he wasn’t going to “sing by himself” and appeared ready to go onstage with his young daughter in his arms, but his Argentine wife Luisana Lopilato put a stop to that. The Canadian star then took the stage to front the band, getting the audience to sing along on the titular hook in the song.
It was a real sight to see Bublé onstage dressed like a plumber, but he still had all the swag that he’s known for. The audience were absolutely chuffed to see the megastar make the unannounced performance, and of course Bublé just sang like a bird. Bublé has sat in with Foster on numerous occasions, including a memorable duet on “Home” with country hitmaker Blake Shelton. The American singer had previously enjoyed a number one hit on the country charts with the Bublé-penned song in 2008.
Foster sold out his debut at the Encore Theatre At Wynn Las Vegas in January 2022, and he returned for three nights on April 20, 22 and 23, accompanied by his wife, singer-songwriter Katharine McPhee. Bublé made his surprise appearance during the second run of shows. The trad pop star was in town for his own six-night residency, which began the following week on April 29.
Bublé played both “Feeling Good” and “Home” during his own residency. “Feeling Good” was originally published in 1964 by English composers Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse, who penned it for the musical The Roar of the Greasepaint – The Smell of the Crowd.
“Feeling Good” debuted as part of the musical in 1964, and then American jazz songstress Nina Simone included it on her UK hit album I Put a Spell on You the following year. The song has retained relevance over the years thanks to many big name artists covering it, including John Coltrane, George Michael, Muse, Avicii, Sammy Davis Jr, Traffic and John Legend.
