“My name’s Doria, I’m Meghan’s mum,” Doria said to the camera in episode two of Meghan and Harry.

“And the last five years have been challenging,” she added. “I’m ready to have my voice heard that’s for sure.

“A little bit of my experience, you know, as her mum,” she continued before the producer asked: “Do you remember when Meg told you she was dating Harry?”

“I do,” Doria replied. “And when she told me, we were on the phone and she says, ‘Mommy, I’m going out with Prince Harry.’ And I started whispering, ‘Oh, my God.’

“She says, ‘You can’t tell anyone.’ So it was from the beginning, it was sort of, ‘Oh, my God, nobody can… you know?’

“And I remember when I first met him too. You know, he was just like 6’1, handsome man with red hair, really great manners.

“He was just really nice and they looked really happy together, like he was the one. Once it was announced that they were together it seemed kind of like a novelty.”

Meghan also weighed in about her feeling when the news was confirmed: “When the news broke, I think we both thought it was a tremendous relief.”

Meghan & Harry: The pair’s timeline

Both the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had teased prior to the docu-series that revelations would be aplenty.

Speaking in the second of two trailers released by Netflix, Harry told producers: “It’s really hard to look back on it now and go, ‘What on earth happened?’

Meghan also mentioned in the first trailer that “when the stakes are this high, doesn’t it make more sense to hear our story from us?”

Needless to say that following the release of two trailers, a number of high-profile commentators and presenters blasted the Sussexes for what could be a damning reflection on the Royal Family.

Piers Morgan has branded Harry a “hypocrite” and insisted the pair are stripped of all royal titles while Princess Diana’s former butler Paul Burrell has also condemned the series.

The documentary series also arrives just a few weeks before King Charles III faces his first Christmas without his mother, the Queen.

The trailers also came under fire after supposedly including footage from incidents not involving the two.

The synopsis set the stage for explosive revelations as the official Netflix plot line reads: “In an unprecedented and in-depth documentary series, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex share the other side of their high-profile love story.

Coronation Street fans ‘work out’ return of old face to hit couple
“Across six episodes, the series explores the clandestine days of their early courtship and the challenges that led to them feeling forced to step back from their full-time roles in the institution.

“With commentary from friends and family, most of whom have never spoken publicly before about what they witnessed, and historians who discuss the state of the British Commonwealth today and the Royal Family’s relationship with the press, the series does more than illuminate one couple’s love story, it paints a picture of our world and how we treat each other.

“From the critically-acclaimed, two-time Academy Award-nominated and Emmy-winning director Liz Garbus, Harry & Meghan is a never-before-seen look at one of the most-discussed couples in history.”
