The s-x scenes in Blue Eye Samurai were choreographed like a battle sequence according to the director.

Blue Eye Samurai does a great job of portraying graphic acts of intimacy. The team behind the series is absolutely firm about it, even if it means courting discourse. The series follows through blood-soaked melodrama that involves high-impact fight sequences. This show captures the essence of women surviving 17th-century Japan and everything they’d do, even if it meant s-x.

Blue Eye Samurai features a diverse span of story. The director of the series, Jane Wu, talked about her opinions on the intimate scenes in an interview with Polygon. She talked about all the team’s hard work that went into producing these scenes.

What was the Director’s perspective on this intimate sequence in Blue Eye Samurai?

Director Jane Wu is known to have experience in action design and martial arts, as she spent years working on a popular series, Game of Thrones. To make the intimate scenes as engaging as an intense battle meant to choreograph the s-x with the intention of making a fierce Samurai fight.
“[Creators Michael Green and Amber Noizumi] were really great about writing these adult scenes, these sensitive scenes, so beautifully that my job was just to render them, but render them with just as much sensitivity,” Wu tells Polygon.

“We always want to make sure that these s-x/bedroom scenes have a point of view. When you give them a point of view, it doesn’t become gratuitous. And a lot of these points of view are from women’s points of view.”

Wu and her team at the French studio Blue Spirit did a great job portraying the puppets’ creepy effect through animation. The movement and design contributed massively to giving viewers a grounded sense of reality.

It is quite important for a s-x scene to convey a sense of warmth and touch to the audience. Being a distancing medium, this becomes a rather challenging ordeal. Wu’s experience in action choreography helped her significantly.

Jaime and Cersei’s non-consensual portrayal of s-x in Game of Thrones

One of the worst scenes from Game of Thrones happens to be “The Breaker of Chains” in Season 4. The main focus of the sequence was Jaime and Cersei Lannister. The worst part about the scene is that it is a depiction of non-consensual s-x. Such an event is not out of the box for Game of Thrones. However, what makes this scene hard to digest is the extenuating circumstances.

The scene begins with Cersei mourning for her son, Joffrey. We see Jaime entering the room to comfort her. However, the scene quickly escalates into him forcing his sister beside their son’s corpse. This was outright horrendous and problematic. The fact that the show decided to show Jaime and Cersei’s incest in the proximity to their dead son makes this scene horribly difficult to comprehend.
