Johnson, a former first-round pick, hit free agency last month after being released by the Phoenix Suns.

He was unexpectedly cut on October 23 after playing in five preseason games with the Suns.

Reports from ESPN NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski suggest Johnson is heading to New York.

Wojnarowski claimed that Johnson has “agreed on a two-way contract with the Brooklyn Nets.”

The talented guard is expected to join up with the team at the Long Island Nets training camp in Westbury, per Nets Daily.

NBA fans were quick to comment on the development, with one writing on X: “Pretty good signing, especially cause it’s a two-way.”

A second said: “W signing for Nets.”

While a third added: “Best option for him right now.”

Johnson was selected as the No. 21 overall pick by the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2021 NBA Draft.

He signed a four-year, $12.5 million deal with the organization but played just 15 games in his rookie season before being traded to Portland.

Johnson appeared in 62 regular-season appearances for the Blazers, averaging 6.5 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 2.0 assists.

He also shot 36.2% from the field and 34.6% from downtown.

The 6-foot-5 guard’s 2022 season was cut short due to a finger injury.

Per Spotrac, he has earned $8 million before his 22nd birthday from the NBA.

During his high school playing days, Johnson narrowly avoided hand amputation after a scary incident involving fireworks.
