AN NBA guard doesn’t have a lot of time to find employment with the league season beginning next month.

NBA free agent Edmond Sumner, 25, was released by the Brooklyn Nets in July.

Sumner played in 53 games for the Nets in the 2022 season.

He averaged 7.1 points and 1.3 assists per appearance.

Brooklyn released Sumner after pushing back his contract guarantee date.

The Detroit, Michigan native would’ve been due approximately $2.2million if Brooklyn had guaranteed his contract, per Spotrac.

After the release, Sumner took to X, formerly Twitter, and wrote: “When they counted me out Brooklyn gave me a shot to prove myself again.

“For that, it’s always love.

“Had a ball hooping again!

“Story continues…”

A product of Xavier, Sumneer was drafted in the second round by the New Orleans Pelicans in the 2016 NBA Draft.

He’d play his first four seasons with the Indiana Pacers, posting an average of 5.7 points and 1.1 assists per game.

However, Sumner missed the entire 2021-22 season due to a torn Achilles.

But during that same NBA year, the Nets traded for the 27-year-old Sumner.

He’d return to the Nets in the 2022-23 free-agency period.

Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported in July that the Charlotte Hornets, Milwaukee Bucks, Toronto Raptors, Miami Heat, and the Phoenix Suns are interested in signing Sumner.

For his career, Sumner has earned close to $9million.
