George Clooney was among the star-studded guests at Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding.

George Clooney made waves in the media amid speculation that his once close-knit bond with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had dwindled.

The star-studded wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle 2018 showcased a union of two influential duos as George and his barrister wife Amal Clooney graced St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle to witness the Royal vows.

Yet, in a twist of fate, the Hollywood heavyweight, aged 62, was the subject of claims suggesting he had stepped back from his “bosom buddies” status with the Royal pair, insiders revealed.

Express.co.uk has delved into the timeline of his rapport with Meghan, now 42, and Harry, 39, tracing its trajectory from warmth to a reported chill.

The link between silver screen legend George and ex-Suits star Meghan became public knowledge when he and Amal were among the elite guests at what was dubbed the wedding of the century.

Following the nuptials, the Clooneys were seen at the couple’s exclusive celebration at Frogmore House.

Despite the outward show of camaraderie, it later emerged that the Clooneys allegedly confided to another guest at the wedding that they “didn’t know” Meghan and Harry well.

Rachel Johnson, sister of Boris Johnson, wrote in AirMail: “There’s a story going around that while Carolyn Bartholomew, Diana’s former flatmate, was waiting for the wedding service to start, she turned to the couple alongside her and asked how they knew Harry or Meghan.”

“We don’t,” the Clooneys answered brightly.

Despite being taken aback, Meghan reportedly grew closer to human rights lawyer Amal after her Royal wedding. “Meghan and Amal have known each other for a while [and share] many interests,” an insider told People Magazine in 2018.

“Amal has been helping Meghan settle into London life. It was a very natural friendship from day one.”

That year, Harry and Meghan were said to have jetted off to Lake Como, Italy, for a break, spending time at George and Amal’s luxurious vacation home.

Royal journalist Omid Scobie has also suggested that Harry and the Hollywood icon bonded over their love of motorbikes.

“George and Harry have a shared passion for motorcycles and checked out George’s collection, and they also played basketball together,” Scobie disclosed.

George himself opened up about his bond with the Sussexes in 2019, confessing to MailOnline that they’ve enjoyed regular dinner get-togethers.

“We live not too far from one another and we have dinners and stuff and we’re friends with them for all the reasons that you’re friends with anybody,” the star admitted. “They’re just really nice, fun, kind people. They’re a very loving couple, and they’re going to be great parents.”

He even defended Meghan against the heavy media scrutiny during an ITV’s Good Morning Britain appearance, labelling the treatment she received after her Royal union as “a little unjust” and “unfair”.

In the same interview, he lauded Meghan as a “really kind and smart and intelligent young woman”.

Last year, reports suggesting that George’s friendship with the couple had abruptly ended left some Royal enthusiasts taken aback.

In 2023, it was reported that the Clooneys are now “more linked to King Charles”, even making an appearance at a Prince’s Trust event in London in May, despite the alleged chilliness between Harry and his father following their decision to step down as senior royals in 2020.

A source claimed at the time, “The Clooneys clearly want to be on good terms with the King and the Royal Family”.
