Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have seen a dip in the popularity and an expert says they are becoming “increasingly irrelevant” since stepping down as working royals

There was a time when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were touted as the next power couple. Their immense popularity was evident on their wedding day in May 2018 – but much has changed since then.

At the start of 2020, Harry and Meghan stepped down from the royal family and went on to make a number of critical comments about members of the monarchy, leaving them all but estranged.

And now they have been dealt a fresh blow, with a marked decline in their power and popularity, according to a new report.

Following Kate’s recent public appearance amidst her cancer treatment, The Daily Beast’s Royal Power List shows that her and Prince William’s popularity continues to rise – but the same can not be said for Meghan and Harry.

According to the publication, Harry’s popularity stands at 34 percent, with Meghan behind her husband at just 26 percent.

In contrast, William has a popularity ranking of 67 percent – and showing even higher than her husband for popularity, Kate stands at 71 percent.

The couples were also ranked on ‘fame’. And while not popular, the Sussexes are “more outrageous” and “interesting” than the senior royals, according to the publication.

William has a 97 percent fame rating, while Kate has 95 percent. Harry, meanwhile, has a 100 percent fame rating, with Meghan rated at 94.

The publication notes that fame and popularity ratings in the list are taken from polling firm YouGov’s latest published figures, and are based on British respondents. Fame is determined by the percentage of the sample who have heard of the person, popularity is the percentage of respondents who have a positive opinion of the person.

It comes after royal expert Jenny Bond stated that the Sussexes are becoming “increasingly irrelevant” since stepping down as working royals. Following their departure, the couple have been regularly updating the public on their personal milestones and business ventures. But, it’s been noted that the timing of these announcements often coincides with significant events in the Royal Family’s calendar.

Asked about the questionable ‘coincidences’, Jennie told OK: “I can’t honestly imagine that they are sitting there scheming to make announcements on the same day as a royal event. Surely they are bigger than that?

“It’s true that there have been some rather strange coincidences in the past about the timing of some of their announcements. But I think they are becoming less and less relevant to the news over here, and the Royal Family will command the attention every time.”
