Meghan Markle and Queen Camilla have both gone through similar heartaches in relation to losing their beloved pet dogs in recent times.
The Duchess of Sussex took to Instagram on Tuesday to announce the death of her beagle, Guy, whereas, the Queen went through a similar situation when her Jack Russell Terrier, Beth, passed away in November.
Meghan may have handed an ‘olive branch’ to the Royal Family by revealing her heartache in public on Instagram. She uploaded a video montage in tribute to her late dog who she first adopted from a Canadian dog rescue in 2015.
The post showed dozens of snaps of Guy, from selfies of Meghan cuddled up with him in bed to Prince Harry playing with the pup.

Part of Meghan’s post read: “If you followed me on instagram back in the day, you saw a lot of him – and on The Tig too. He was with me at Suits, when I got engaged, (and then married), when I became a mom….he was with me for everything: the quiet, the chaos, the calm, the comfort.”
She further explained she had become emotional over the loss: “I have cried too many tears to count – the type of tears that make you get in the shower with the absurd hope that the running water on your face will somehow make you not feel them, or pretend they’re not there. But they are. And that’s okay too.”
Meanwhile, Queen Camilla is said to be already searching for a new dog to adopt from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home to help fill the void left by the loss of a four-legged family member.
Royal editor of the Daily Express, Emily Ferguson, questions if this is a chance to heal the rift, asking “Maybe they might bond over their shared loss?”.
It comes as Meghan and Harry stepped back as senior working royals in 2020 and eventually settled in Montecito, California, with infrequent trips back to the UK.
Camilla first adopted her Jack Russell terrier from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home in 2011. The Queen has previously spoken of her love for her pets, saying: “They are family, friends and ever-faithful companions and, just like anyone else with a passion for dogs, I can’t imagine life without them.”
Charles also appeared to be just as fond of Beth and Bluebell – the two dogs took centre stage in a picture released to mark the couple’s 15th wedding anniversary in 2020.

The late Queen Elizabeth II was also known for her love of corgis. Most of her beloved pets were descended from her first corgi, Susan, who was gifted to her on her 18th birthday in 1944.
Two of the late Queen’s corgis – Muick and Sandy – are being cared for by Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson following her death.
