ESPN’s Adam Schefter has put out an update regarding former Patriots head coach Bill Belichick that is a bit surprising.

Belichick is part of a coaching market that is probably the best in recent memory, with Mike Vrabel, Pete Carroll, and Jim Harbaugh all potentially available.

The six-time Super Bowl winner has met with the Atlanta Falcons on two occasions and it is expected that they will make things official pretty soon. But Schefter is reporting that there’s been no interest in Belichick outside of Atlanta.

“The Falcons are the only team so far that has engaged in heavy conversations with Bill Belichick…That’s crazy to me but right now that’s the reality,” the insider said on ESPN.

The Falcons are the only team Belichick has met with so far, suggesting Schefter could be right. But ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio is reporting that there could be some low-key interest in the veteran HC, though he’s also claiming that the Falcons don’t consider him a frontrunner.

“Per a league source with knowledge of the situation, multiple teams are quietly considering a potential run at Belichick. At least one currently has a head-coaching vacancy. At least one currently does not,” Florio notes.

“Many in league circles believe Belichick is the frontrunner for the Falcons job. The Falcons regard the situation otherwise. As they continue to conduct interviews, they have no frontrunner, yet.”
While Belichick has struggled mightily without Tom Brady under center, it’s crazy to think that there’s just one team interested in him right now.

Might be that the other teams looking for a head coach are after just that; a head coach, not someone to run the entire organization.
