The wideout, acquired by the Chiefs earlier this year, suffered a shoulder injury during the team’s preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday. Brown is reported to have dislocated his sternoclavicular joint, something associated with car crashes, but was fortunate to avoid surgery.
According to NFL reporter Jordan Schultz, Brown will miss 4-6 weeks because of the injury, which means he could be sidelined for the first two games of the regular season, with KC scheduled to open against the Baltimore Ravens before facing the Cincinnati Bengals.
Head coach Andy Reid initially told reporters Marquise Brown would “miss one time,” also comparing the injury to the one Tyreek Hill suffered while he was with the team in 2019.
Marquise Brown’s Regular-Season Debut For The Chiefs Put On Hold
Marquise Brown joined the Chiefs on a one-year deal earlier in the offseason as part of a campaign to upgrade the receiver room, given the uncertainty looming over Rashee Rice. The reigning Super Bowl champions also drafted pacey pass-catcher Xavier Worthy in the first round.

The former Ravens and Arizona Cardinals WR hasn’t quite lived up to expectations since turning pro, but he has shown flashes of brilliance. He has also never played with a quarterback like Patrick Mahomes, so fans are looking to see how big of a contributor he could be as the Chiefs look to win an unprecedented third-straight ring.
The injury has obviously forced a change in plans, but the Chiefs should be fine to start the campaign as the NFL might not announce a decision on Rice until much later, although it could impact them heading into the playoffs.
If all goes well, Marquise Brown could be back in action by Week 3 against the Atlanta Falcons on September 22.
