More details have emerged on the chest injury that Los Angeles Rams star tight end Tyler Higbee suffered in Monday night’s Wild Card Round win over the Minnesota Vikings.
Despite suffering a chest injury in the second quarter that knocked him out of the game, Tyler Higbee finished as the Rams’ leading receiver (five receptions for 58 yards) in the 27-9 blowout win over Minnesota.
Per The Athletic’s Jourdan Rodrigue, Rams head coach Sean McVay revealed that Higbee was taken to the hospital for precaution because the veteran tight end was “coughing up a little bit of blood.”
The good news is that the Rams expect Tyler Higbee to return for Sunday’s Divisional Round tilt against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field, McVay added.
The 32-year-old Higbee got the Rams off to a near-perfect start. They set the tone on the game’s opening possession with a seven-play, 70-yard drive that culminated with a Matthew Stafford touchdown pass to Kyren Williams.
After forcing a three-and-out, the Rams had another excellent drive (eight plays, 62 yards) that ended with a field goal to put them up 10-0. The Vikings eventually cut the Rams’ lead to 10-3 but never got closer than that.

Monday night marked the Rams’ first playoff win since their victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl 56. Up next, they’ll look to upset the Eagles and reach the NFC title game for the third time in the McVay era.
Tyler Higbee Gives Rams Offense A Significant Boost
Higbee unfortunately missed all but three games in the regular season recovering from a torn ACL that he suffered in last year’s Wild Card Round loss at the hands of the Los Angeles Rams.
But Higbee looked like his old self in Monday’s statement win over the 14-3 Vikings, and he promises to play a giant role the rest of the way as he looks to capture his second Super Bowl championship ring.
