Richard Osman recently shed light on the controversy surrounding Gino D’Acampo’s removal from ITV’s programming,

emphasizing that the decision stemmed from a consistent “pattern of behaviour” rather than isolated incidents.

During an episode of his podcast, The Rest is Entertainment, the former Pointless presenter discussed the ongoing allegations against the TV chef, explaining why ITV had taken action.

Osman clarified that such dismissals do not occur over a single or even a few incidents but rather due to ongoing issues that have created discomfort over time.

“People do not lose their job just because they said a couple of things a couple of times. It’s a pattern of behaviour, it’s upset a number of people over a number of years,” Osman stated.

He further elaborated that as long as a TV personality maintains the support of their colleagues and crew, they are unlikely to face severe consequences. However, when persistent complaints emerge, leading to a toxic environment, networks are compelled to act.

“If you’re in trouble as a presenter but actually your crew loves you and people who work with you go, ‘That’s just what they do and he’s a really decent guy,’ then you don’t get fired,” he added. “But when it’s a pattern and it becomes tiresome, that’s when things change.”

Allegations Against Gino D’Acampo

D’Acampo, 48, is currently facing over 40 misconduct complaints, spanning a 12-year period. The accusations include claims of making “distressing” and “unacceptable” remarks on set, all of which he strongly denies.

One reported incident from 2011 alleged that D’Acampo made explicit sexual comments to a female colleague about a kitchen counter. Another accusation involved an instance during a location shoot where he was said to have displayed “aggressive” behaviour, answering his door in only his underwear and making inappropriate references to his genitalia.

In a separate 2019 complaint, D’Acampo allegedly made inappropriate comments about a young crew member’s girlfriend in connection with an ice cream-related dispute.

Additional allegations include crude and “disgusting” remarks about his ITV co-star Holly Willoughby, in which he reportedly compared her to Fearne Cotton in an offensive manner.

Gordon Ramsay’s Disassociation

It has also emerged that celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay distanced himself from D’Acampo two years ago due to concerns over his conduct. The two chefs previously worked together alongside Fred Sirieix on Gordon, Gino & Fred’s Road Trip, but their relationship reportedly became strained due to D’Acampo’s behaviour.

An insider disclosed that Ramsay was “horrified” by what he witnessed and felt the need to take action. “Gordon found there was a lot of unacceptable behaviour going on, he saw things he didn’t think were okay, so he spoke up. That was that. Friendship over,” the source revealed.

Following this, Ramsay and his professional team sought to distance themselves from D’Acampo, making it clear that they wanted to separate their brand from his.

ITV’s Response

ITV has since faced significant pressure to address its handling of the allegations against D’Acampo. The network released a statement emphasizing its commitment to taking appropriate action when serious concerns arise.

“Our promise to those we work with is that where a complaint is made to ITV or serious concerns raised, we will look into it, and if we find that something inappropriate has happened, we will take action,” an ITV spokesperson told The Standard.

In response to the allegations, ITV has removed reruns of D’Acampo’s shows from its schedule and has cancelled the planned release of a new season of Family Fortunes, which he was set to host.

D’Acampo’s Reaction

D’Acampo has firmly denied all allegations, describing them as “deeply upsetting.” He has yet to make a public statement beyond his initial denial but has been largely absent from the public eye since the controversy erupted.

As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen what further actions ITV and those involved will take. However, Osman’s comments provide a rare industry perspective on how networks handle misconduct allegations and why repeated complaints ultimately lead to significant repercussions.
