TOM JONES has addressed why he will no longer sing his hit song She’s A Lady as he reflected on his career with the Daily Express.

Tom Jones, 84, released his single She’s A Lady, one his best selling hits, in 1971. Reflecting on the lyrics, the hitmaker said he will no longer sing the song on stage. The Voice UK coach spilled: “My old song She’s A Lady from 1971 is the only one of my songs I won’t do on stage anymore.

There are lines in there, like, ‘She always knows her place’, that just don’t work in this day and age.

“That song doesn’t sit right any more.”

Tom went on to point out there were other songs of his that “aren’t right” for him to sing anymore, such as Sex Bomb.

“I wouldn’t record Sex Bomb as a dance track like it was on the record if I was to make it now,” he spilled.

The song was recorded in 1998 and released two years later.

In his over 60 year long career, he has released 15 albums, most recently Surrounded by Time.

The singer has plans to go back on the road again when safe to do following a break, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking during lockdown, the singer said: “That’s the thing that I’ve missed most.

“I’m biding my time – but I don’t have that much time to bide. I don’t want to be 90 before I can get back on the road again!”

After falling ill a couple of years back, Tom was advised to slow down for the sake of his health.

But, refusing to stop doing what he loves most, he defiantly added to The Telegraph: “I’m biding my time – but I don’t have that much time to bide.

“I don’t want to be 90 before I can get back on the road again!”

In another recent interview, Tom revealed which song he can’t listen to as it reminds him of his late wife Linda.

The latter died after a short battle with cancer in 2016.

The father-of-one has said he can no longer listen to Frank Sinatra’s song The Hungry Years because it makes him emotional.

He explained: “This song is about missing ‘those hungry years’.

“It jogs my memory of my wife and myself. We got married very young, you see, and she was with me up until five years ago when she had lung cancer and passed away.”

The singer added: “I tried to sing it as a duet with a lady on The Voice but every time I went to do it, I got a lump in my throat.”

In the same chat with NME, Tom said Bill Haley and His Comets’ See You Later, Alligator is a song he and Linda used to dance to.

“I used to jive to this song with my wife when we were teenagers,” he revealed.
