Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have continued with solo appearances at events thousands of miles apart.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a shift in how they appear in public last year after a friend close to them told People how their “twin-track approach” will see them promote their own interests individually.

However, following their efforts to divert criticism away from their brand, the couple are now back at appearing publicly together again, with Meghan set to join Harry in Canada for the Invictus Games later this week, and a source close to them telling the Express.co.uk: “There will be a renewed focus on the Sussexes as a couple, as a brand and showcasing them as a couple and family.”

But TalkTV host Kevin O’Sullivan was critical of the couple’s PR strategy and said that even making solo appearances allegedly failed to boost their image as they still received bad press.

He said: “Harry and Meghan are obsessed with their image; they are obsessed with publicity. For a long time now they have been pursuing this strategy that it’s best if they don’t appear together. I mean they did appear together when they went down to the LA fires recently, but how did that work out for them?

“Not very well, really; people were disgusted by their photo-op appearance, calling them disaster tourists and tragedy vultures. But that [their solo appearances] has not really worked out either; they are still getting an avalanche of negative publicity every day.”

Royal Family LIVE: Meghan Markle slammed as ‘nauseatingly contrived’ after new appearance

Meghan Markle’s latest video post on Instagram has not gone down well with a royal commentator.

Meghan Markle has been slammed by a royal commentator for sharing a “nauseatingly contrived” and “actressy” social media post on Instagram.

The Duchess of Sussex posted a new clip on Tuesday of her opening a special gift donated by singer Billie Eilish for a family whose home burnt down in the Los Angeles wildfires. Meghan visited the city back in January alongside Prince Harry to help with volunteering.

Author and literary editor of The Spectator Alexander Larman criticised the duchess and said that her latest video is “hard to stomach”.

He wrote: “The disaster has attracted a small but vocal number of people who ostensibly have offered their time and resources to provide much-needed assistance – but in reality seem more interested in creating #content to share on their social media. Meghan Markle, predictably enough, belongs to that category.’

“Yet there is something so nauseatingly contrived, so fake – so actressy – about the little smiles to camera, the faux-excitement, the casual name-dropping of famous friends and, finally, the idea that some signed trinkets can in some way compensate for a truly epochal disaster. It screams of consumerism and fakery: both things, by now, that the Duchess has intimately associated herself with.”

Meanwhile, while Meghan’s video received criticism from commentators and fans, some people praised her for her “authenticity”, including one user who wrote on Instagram: “I love how excited she is, so sweet to help this girl,” and another one who said: “I just love how she is choosing to be her authentic self. She is one strong woman. What a beautiful heart.”
