The New York Jets could follow the New York Giants in cutting their starting quarterback, with Aaron Rodgers’ place in the team now rumored to be under threat following Daniel Jones’ exit.

Rodgers is clearly not the answer to the Jets’ problems. The veteran QB was expected to be the team’s savior, but that experiment has turned out to be an abject failure, and it doesn’t appear that he has much of a future in NY.

The Athletic’s Dianna Russini broke the news that the team’s owner, Woody Johnson, wanted to bench Rodgers and play Tyrod Taylor but allowed coaches to change his mind.

“After losing to Denver, Woody Johnson suggested in a contentious meeting that they bench Rodgers because he felt the QB wasn’t playing well. The coaches pushed back and asked each other if he was serious,” she wrote in a piece earlier this week.

Russini has since reported that the team could do away with the QB altogether and release him before the end of the season.

The Jets won’t play this weekend as they’re in a bye, yet things might get interesting once the QB sits in front of reporters again.

Rodgers has indicated that he would like to keep going next season, however, it does not appear that it will be in a Jets uniform the way things have gone since they traded for him.
