The Kansas City Chiefs may have come out on top against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, but one of their cheerleaders had a heavy heart following some heartbreaking family news.
Chiefs veteran cheerleader Sadie Harmon announced the death of her puppy, Melo, after the pup tested positive for Parvo.
She took to her Instagram page and wrote in part, “Sweet Melo. We are heartbroken to share that our sweet new baby has gone to doggy heaven. Melo tested positive for Parvo this morning, a very serious viral illness in puppies.
With his size and symptoms, he was looking at a very extensive treatment plan, and with his conditions, was at an uphill battle,” she announced.
According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, Parvo is easily spread by direct contact with infected dogs, contact with feces (stool) from infected dogs, or contact with virus-contaminated surfaces.
“We know he is not suffering anymore, but we are truly heartbroken and devastated. We loved him so much and were so excited to start making memories with him. He was just a baby and did not deserve this. We love you so much, Melo and you will always be our first baby and first pup.We hope you enjoy all the treats, leafs and kisses in doggy heaven,” she added.
