Washington Jr. is the son of former NBA guard Duane, who was a second-round pick in 1987.

Duane Sr. played professionally for over a decade, including for the Los Angeles Clippers in 1993.

The Knicks announced on Monday that they had waived Washington Jr. for the third time this year.

He was originally signed on a two-way contract in February before being released in July.

Washington Jr. spent time again with the franchise in the Summer League and training camp, before being waived in October despite impressing for the Knicks G-League affiliate Westchester.

The 23-year-old signed a fresh two-way deal with the Knicks last month but was released again on November 27.

His future now remains uncertain after reports suggested he was dealing with an injury, which will keep him out of action until the New Year.

Knicks PR reported: “Duane Washington Jr. sustained a right thumb injury. He will be re-evaluated in 6-8 weeks.”

Following Washington Jr.’s release, one fan said on X: “Man… I wish someone would give Duane a real chance.”

Another wrote: “Getting waived while you’re injured is insane.”

“Come back [to Phoenix] Duane,” a third added.

Washington Jr. was an undrafted rookie in 2021 out of Ohio State.

He was picked up by the Indiana Pacers, where he would have a productive rookie season.

The German-born guard headed to Phoenix in 2022 and averaged 7.9 points, 1.2 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per contest in Arizona.

Per Spotrac, he has earned $950,000 since signing with the Pacers two years ago.
