Ruth, 64, was last seen on screen in May and had decided to extend her break for the rest of June.

A source told The Mirror: “Ruth was hurt when she learned about Eamonn’s friendship with another woman but she is strong and she will be back soon with a smile on her face, putting her best foot forward, as she always does.

“She needs a bit of time to regroup after everything that’s gone on, which is understandable, but she plans to return to Loose Women, with renewed vigour, in July.”

As well as dealing with her crumbling marriage, Ruth suffered a further blow after discovering that Eamonn had been spending time with another woman.

The star was left “hurt” by Eamonn’s behaviour in the wake of their split.

Eamonn, 64, has been on a string of outings with a relationship counsellor in her forties.

It’s alleged that Eamonn grew close to the woman last year after they first made contact on social media several years ago.

And he has endorsed a charity linked to her work, helping to host a fund-raising event free of charge.

Eamonn has never mentioned her  name on social media and it is understood Eamonn’s wife Ruth, 64, was not aware of their liaisons until recently.

Sources say Eamonn treated his close friend to a Beyonce concert, a Center Parcs visit last year and tickets to see his favourite team, Man United, at Old Trafford.

She also hit back at claims that she’d left her husband because of his ongoing health issues.

Ruth has recently been helping to nurse Eamonn back to health following a medical scare which resulted in him spending time in hospital.

Ruth and Eamonn Relationship Timeline

Before the shock split announcement, Ruth and Eamonn seemed like one of the strongest couples on UK TV – even with their signature bickering style.

Here’s how their romance played out…

1997-2002 – To be respectful to Gabrielle, the couple kept their relationship out of the limelight. Ruth told Daily Mail: “I thought it spoke volumes about the sort of man he was, the sort of father he was and the integrity he had. It made me love him more, not less.”

2002 – Ruth and Eamonn welcome their son, Jack, to the family.

2005 – Eamonn finalises his divorce with Gabrielle.

2006 – The pair begin to host Friday episodes of This Morning together.

June 2010 – Eamonn and Ruth marry at Elvetham Hall, Hampshire.

2016 – Eamonn undergoes a double hip replacement in the first of many health battles.

November 2020 – Ruth and Eamonn are replaced on their regular Friday slot by Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary in a ‘show shake-up’.

December 2021 – After a year of being moved to the bank holiday presenting slot, both Eamonn and Ruth left This Morning.

January 2022 – Eamonn debuted on GB News, while Ruth stayed with ITV in her long-standing role on Loose Women.

September 2022 – Eamonn undergoes spinal surgery after years of back issues including a trapped sciatic nerve.

November 2022 – Eamonn falls down the stairs of his Surrey home with Ruth and breaks his shoulder, requiring a new operation.

September 2023 – Eamonn has a spine and neck stretching procedure as part of his year-long recovery.

May 2024 – Ruth and Eamonn announce they have split after 14 years of marriage and a 27-year relationship.

The Sun on Sunday broke the news that Eamonn and Ruth had split and are in the process of divorcing.

We revealed Eamonn recently moved out of the couple’s marital home in Surrey.

Cracks had started to appear in the relationship of the popular duo — who presented ITV’s This Morning together until 2021 — and they had not been photographed out together for two years.

The Sun on Sunday approached Eamonn for comment.

Both Eamonn and Ruth have remained active on social media, with Eamonn sharing a selfie with his daughter.

He smiled beside 33-year-old Rebecca, whom he shares with his first wife Gabrielle.

In his caption, he wrote: “Lots of folk posting about their daughters . Not many girls in The Holmes family but I have one who I love and adore xxx.”
