One of the latest sensations to hit the network music competitions actually lives in the Mohawk Valley. Sofronio Vasquez has taken “The Voice” by storm.
The singer, born in the Philippines, has rung up more than nine-million views on Facebook. And right now, we’re going to find out how his journey brought him to “The Voice” Utica.
His love of music came from Karaoke which is very popular in the Philippines. He came to America for a better life, his first stop was to San Diego then to Utica two years ago to attend dental school. He auditioned for “The Voice” earlier this year and hopes to continue on to the live shows.
Sofronio performed “Everything” by his “The Voice” coach Michael Buble on Bridge Street and was accompanied by Edgar Pagán and Jim O’Mahoney.

Sofronio Vasquez makes it to ‘The Voice season 26’ finale
Filipino singer Sofronio Vasquez continues to raise the Philippine flag as he made it to the Top 5 of “The Voice US” with his heart-rending performance of Elvis Presley’s “If I Can Dream.”
The “Tawag ng Tanghalan” alum announced on his social media that he made it to the finale of the singing competition as he asked for continued prayers, as he is now one step closer to claiming the ultimate title.
“WE MADE IT TO THE FINALE [US and Philippine flags],” he began. “Thank you so much to my Filipinos everywhere and in America who gave so much love and support. And of course, I want to say Maraming Salamat to my hometown, Utica, Upstate New York, Mohawk Valley, and everyone! Grabe kayo. One last vote next week for the finale. Please continue to pray for me.”

In an interview with People Magazine, Vasquez shared that he was holding back tears because he didn’t want to appear “too emotional” during his last performance.
Vasquez previously wowed the audience with his rendition of Roy Orbison’s “Crying,” which led him to advance to the Top 8. At the time, he also received a standing ovation from his coach, Michael Bublé.
Aside from the Philippine bet, Shye, another contestant from team Bublé, also made it to the top 5 with her performance of “The Joke” by Brandi Carlile.
Also included in the top 5 roster are Danny Joseph, whose coach is Reba McEntire, Jeremy Beloate from team Snoop Dogg, and Sydney Sterlace from team Gwen Stefani.
The finale is set to take place on Dec. 9 to 10.
