Magic Mike’s Last Dance, the third and last film in the Magic Mike trilogy, brings an end to Channing Tatum’s nearly eight-year absence from the big screen (or a workbench). Steven Soderbergh, who returns to direct after handing over the last installment to longtime partner Gregory Jacobs, has said unequivocally that the new film has no nudity.

The previous films were infamous for their nudity and striping scenes it seems that the director has consciously avoided these scenes to draw focus from the nudity and focus on the chemistry between Hayek and Tatum.

When Magic Mike’s Last Dance reaches cinemas moviegoers notice something noticeably absent, nudity. Steven Soderbergh, the film’s director, recently commented on the R-rated film, which stars Channing Tatum and Salma Hayek Pinault and follows the two as they attempt to stage a male revue in a London theater.

Although there are male strippers in the film again, they largely wear their trousers this time. The director revealed that avoiding nudity was a conscious choice, he told in an interview with Rolling Stone,
“To me, it’s about sexy. It’s not about the sex, per se, and whether the movie is explicit. There’s no nudity in ‘Out of Sight.’ There’s no nudity in ‘Magic Mike’s Last Dance.’ There’s not even a thong. And yet, it was our desire to make a sexy movie. What’s sexy is intimacy and genuine emotion. Something that feels alive, electric, and has the potential for vulnerability. That can be sexy.”
Though Magic Mike 3 doesn’t have as many dancing sequences as the previous film, it tries to compensate for this by throwing up a few of hall-of-fame hot sequences. This is consistent with the film’s efforts to target quite exclusively to women. As Salma Hayek’s character frequently mentions, the purpose of her and Mike’s male stripper extravaganza is female liberty or the feminine gaze.

Channing Tatum almost said no to Magic Mike 3

Channing Tatum revealed that he almost didn’t feature in Magic Mike’s Last Dance due to the challenging procedure of getting in shape. The Dog actor went on The Kelly Clarkson Show on Thursday and discussed the franchise’s impending third installment. Clarkson also exhibited a shirtless shot of Tatum from the franchise’s second film, Magic Mie XXL.
“That might be the reason why I didn’t want to do a third one, because I have to look like that. It’s hard to look like that. Even if you do work out, to be that kind of in shape is not natural. That’s not even healthy. You, starve yourself. I don’t think when you’re that lean, it’s actually.”
He continued,
“I don’t know how people who work a 9 to 5 actually stay in shape because it’s my full-time job, and I can barely do it,”

The actor expressed his relief at the change in gaze, it helped to have a female voice and there are better dances in the film this time around. The film has not received great reviews from critics this time around as well, but fans’ verdict is yet to come.
