Tennessee Titans running back and pending free agent Derrick Henry appears to already have one dream destination in mind.

The 30-year-old Henry is likely to test free agent for the first time in his career following a glorious eight-year run with the Titans. The AFC South club appears to be bracing for a rebuild, however, which presumably means letting Henry walk and finishing his career elsewhere.

 

Appearing on the “Bussin’ With The Boys” podcast (h/t of Michael Obermuller of Heavy.com), Henry admitted that he was “close” to getting traded to an AFC postseason contender ahead of the deadline, though he wouldn’t reveal which one.

In the interview, Henry also admitted that he was he was hoping to be drafted by the Miami Dolphins back in 2016, and that he believed he was going there.

“I wanted to go to Miami. I wanted to play for the Dolphins,” Henry said. “That’s where I wanted to go. That’s where I thought I was going.”

Henry has also talked about his desire to compete for a Super Bowl at this phase of his career. The Dolphins finished 11-6 last season and boasted the league’s second-best scoring offense, averaging 29.2 points per game.

So the Dolphins might interest Henry on that front. But they already have two quality running backs in Raheem Mostert (1,012 yards and 18 touchdowns), and rookie standout De’Von Achane (800 rushing yards and eight touchdowns), and both are under contract next year.

Regardless, there promises to be quite the market for the two-time rushing champion and 2020 Offensive Player of the Year. Henry showed zero signs of slowing down in 2023, finishing with the second-most rushing yards (1,167) and rushing scores (12).
