The NFL is a tough sport and an even tougher business, and following some breaking news this morning, Robert Saleh found this out after a 2-3 start to the 2024 NFL season with the New York Jets.
Saleh became the head coach of the storied franchise in 2021 after serving four seasons as the defensive coordinator in San Francisco under Kyle Shanahan. However, after three seasons and then some with the Jets, Saleh was fired with a record of 20-36 through 56 games.
According to reporter Jordan Schultz, Saleh was “escorted out of the building by team security” after losing his job. There was also reportedly no meeting with the team before he was taken out by the team’s security.
However, a 2-3 record to begin the 2024 NFL season isn’t always grounds for firing coaches in the NFL, causing some fans to speculate the real reason that the Jets let go of Saleh, which is quite interesting.
Social Media Sleuths Are Accusing The Jets Of Firing Robert Saleh For Wearing The Lebanon Flag
One NFL fan wasn’t very happy with the move, posting a picture of the former bench boss to X, captioning it, “Just two days after Coach Robert Saleh wore the Lebanese flag on his sleeve, he’s been fired as the Head Coach of the NY Jets. While his record hasn’t been stellar, Saleh inherited a struggling team and still had a year left on his contract. Is this just a coincidence?”
Many fans commented on the post to defend Saleh. As one NFL fan put it, “He stood for what is right. He cannot have any regrets about that,” while another commented, “[Saleh] should sue for discrimination.”
It’s too early to know what Saleh has planned for his next steps following his firing or if any NFL teams could move some staff members around for him. If he were to find a job again this season, it most likely won’t be till later this season.
